"You're older and you should know better."

WHAT???? That's one I NEVER said to my oldest son...it never made any sense to me.

My Mom recently told me that she doesn't know why she said that to me...it doesn't make any sense to HER either!!

Do I have to get your father? ( if my dad put his paper down you were in serious trouble in our household)

my favorite expression from my dad that my mom would sometimes use: "It'll put hair on your chest" (when you don't want to eat the broccoli)

Eating a good meal, my mom would say, "What are the poor people eating tonight. A good meal might've been tortellini, Caesar's salad and garlic bread. I would answer, "Tortellini, Caesar's salad and garlic bread." and everyone would laugh.

How about dadisms? They're funnier. My dad would say "That had a taint to it" after finishing his plate. Then he would say, "Taint enough."

Maybe "dadisms" should be another thread, but what the hell.

My father would always say, "I can see around corners."

From my mom:

"I have eyes in the back of my head"
"Have I told you lately how much I love you" (she would say this anytime and in front of anyone!)
"You're in the doghouse now!" (after I did something wrong and referring to the fact that my dad would blow his lid when he got home)
"Why don't you hit the road?" (meaning 'go outside and play')
"Mothers know everything" or "I'll find out sooner or later"
"Just wait 'til your dad gets home"
"What are you on? Crack?"
"You look like someone who's been up to no good"
"jazblanc77 was the ugliest baby in the world, would you like to see his baby picture?" (whenever I brought a new girlfriend home)
"Stop your monkeying around"

From my dad:

"Are you dumb or daft" (last I checked they were the same?)
"Think before you speak"
"Think before you act"
"You make a better door than a window"
"Be quiet" "Sit still" "Go to your room"
"Money doesn't grow on trees"
"Don't talk back to me young man"
"The snow's not going to shovel itself!"
"Looks like the grass is getting long!"
"Were you born in a barn?" (meaning, "close the front door, it's getting cold in here")
"Do I look like I was born yesterday?"
"Wipe that smirk off your face"
"Children should be seen, not heard"
"I think it's time for you to go to bed"
"Do you want to walk home" (always used while in the car and us kids were getting too crazy in the back)

I can only think of negative ones, sadly.....

"You're the most selfish, self-centred person I've ever come across".

"Do you HAVE TO make that disgusting noise while you eat?"

"Serves you right for being so bloody stupid".

"Well whose fault is that?"

"Perhaps you should try using a bit of common sense!"

"That/Those _________ aren't/isn't going to _____________ themselves"

For example... "Those dishes aren't going to clean themselves", etc, etc...

The only reason why I thought of this one was I actually used it the other day on my gf.... I think she was asking me why I was working so much overtime or something, and I replied "Well, this shabu shabu isn't going to pay for itself."

And I'm not even a mother yet.... Confused

You're cruisin' for a bruisin'

Don't you sass me, missy.

Look at me when I'm talking to you.

Don't give me that look.

Ask your father.

Every time we went to the store the rhyme:

To market, to market, to buy a fat pig,
Home again, home again, dancing a jig;
To market, to market, to buy a fat hog;
Home again, home again, jiggety-jog;
To market, to market, to buy a plum bun,
Home again, home again, market is done.

Funnier ones...not actually from my family

"Shut your mouth when you're talking to me"

"The only thing I wanna hear from you is nothing!"
