Why is ű called TVXQ in English? Is this a Vietnamese romanization? |

As part of SM's efforts to brand Dongbangshingi as a pan-Asian pop group, their name was put together using Chinese characters; the initials TVXQ stand for the Chinese pronunciation of the characters (which is, roughly, Tong Vfang Xien Qi). There is very little consistency in the English-language media in Korea regarding how exactly their name is written... sometimes it's in "Korean" English, and sometimes in "Chinese" English.
Perhaps someone with a better understanding of Chinese characters can tell us what the characters mean. I know it's East, something, something, something...

Or they could use a word that translates easily in all languages and is a perfect description of their music:
Crap |

Dong Fang means "eastern" or "Oriental"... i'm not familiar with the brand you're talking about but that's a good bet. Also, "xin" (prounounced "shin") means "new" and is popular in brand names, too. |

Good Lord. I'm actually embarrassed for them.
And Korea wonders why their "music groups" aren't popular in the West. |

Nah, they are strictly for the middle school girls! My high school girls pretty much have the same opinion of them as we do - "ٺ and so, so, so not cool" But the middle school girls I sometimes teach go crazy for the Dongban.... |

I was about to post the same thing. When we were making Christmas cards one of my MS girls drew a glitter-glue tree on her card and was hanging up little cut-outs of them for ornaments to hand on her tree. |
