I know you're making a point about the aspiration of the "tt" in British vs the "dd" sound in American english, but let me point out one thing.
In America, there is a letter we use called R |
I never could pronounce that. Maybe I should have that tongue operation.  |

Bingo! Konglish is worse than nails on a chalkboard in my opinion. Blood-curdling sounds.
I really only work with one teacher who's a major offender, but I spend too much time cleaning up her mistakes in my students. It's become my personal mission to abolish Konglish at every turn.

I agree, scottish is a lovely accent but what's accents got to do with konglish???
If you're attacking korean english sentence structure then you're just being utterly ignorant - ever heard of interlanguage? And if you're attacking their pronunciation then you're being a fascist pig, it's very difficult for L2 learners to speak like a native speaker, and why should they? Yes, I understand koreans are discriminating different speakers of english language in hopes that they'll learn to speak like a 'proper' native if they learn from a teacher who speak their idea of 'perfect' english. It's ridiculous and illogical but they're not to blame for not realising that they don't HAVE to sound like a native is it?
Anyway, what kind of teacher are you? you should be grateful that your students and colleagues are at least TRYING to communicate at all, even if it is Knoglish! Sheesh!
To the OP, I really feel for you and as a korean myself I'm partly outraged and partly saddened by the recruiter's utter ignorance...but I think it's a one-off...he doesn't know what he's talking about does he? His definition of english english is probably Hugh Grant  not a cockney, geordie nor scouse all of whom are 'English English' and absolutely lovely people but blooody hard to comprehend at the best of times.... |

Whats wrong with south africans exactly???!!!
I'm from Zimbabwe and I assure you that we, and our southern neighbours the South Africans have had a better education and speak far better, purer, colonial english, than any scot I've ever come across. There are 4th generation south africans that sound like they've lived in Hampshire their entire lives but have never set foot in England. They would put the Queen to shame.
You can't honestly say that thick scottish brogue is on an equality? Its almost indecipherable!!!. And many regional english accents are worse!!

What's wrong with South Africans exactly?
A man I met here in Korea was teaching English on the strength of his South African passport. To his credit, he spoke English well, but with a rather thick accent. Afrikaans was his native language.
