Term limits for Presidents-think of how far better off Canada would be if Jean Chretien had been limited to 2 terms.

The division of powers-and you addressed this yourself in the Vancouver Center Svend Robinson-Frey race-choosing either candidate or party-with the division of powers, in both the USA and yes I will say it, FRANCE, it's not either/or-there are the constant cranks talking about the need for proportional representation, but that's not good enough as far as I am concerned.

As far as Svend-I wanted him to win the NDP leadership-but now, his future is behind him!

NDP is worse then liberals. Just look at what they did in BC.

I meant only the federal scene in my preceding post-the provincial Liberals in BC deserve reelection, not the feds-and the provinicial Libs in Ontario should meet Lady Liberty circa France 1789-1792

Ok whackjobs, how do you propose we get illegal guns off the street? Let me guess more guns! What I suggested wasn't to target law abiding gun owners and you know it. So come on smart guys give the board more than just you NRA lovin, sister sleeping, hillbilly thoughts and give us a solution.

It would improve this sort of prime-minister-for-life arrogance that flourished so much under Trudeau, yes. Another thing which would help is a fixed election date like the US has - eg. every four years in November, which would help the sort of Italian-parliament Canada is headed for if we keep electing minority governments, as we are likely to in a few months.

I too don't see why posters are so critical of Octavius. He's suggested that people who commit crimes with guns need more severe punishment-- so what's wrong with that--it's part of the PC platform! I don't have a problem with Martin proposing a ban on handguns-- the problem is that it's a dishonest promise; handguns already were banned and harassing sport or collector users wouldn't do anything to lessen their criminal uses.

You are a typical Liberal, ranting and raving about every one else yet you can't find a solution for a simple problem even if it took a shit on your face.

How about making laws that increase penalties for smuggling guns. Increase searches of vehicles at borders. Have more patrols on known hot spots of smuggling. Get rid of the gun registry or actually give it to the cops so they can have use of it, which currently they don't. Put more cops on the streets. Public awarness presentations on gun use and safety in schools. Better laws against gang or organized crime syndicates.

Oh hell how about increasing all sentences on violent crimes and or bring back the death penalty. Of course your a liberal so you wouldn't understand this punishment deal.

I could go on for days giving suggestions.

Oh and Chicago, and Washington DC has a ban on all handguns and yet they are Crime capitals. So before you start calling people hillbillies maybe you should actually read some facts about Gun control, so you can stop being an asshat. I bet you didn't even read any of the links I provided.

I do believe I said increase sentences. Can you read? I said make mandatory minimums for those with illegal guns. Thats all I said, I never said you couldn't have your guns. First reading lessons, then we'll talk.

What the heck is Wrench et al freaking out over?

Octavius said nothing about going after legal gun owners. He wants to crack down on the illegal ones... nothing wrong with that. His mandatory 10 year jail term is a great idea.... so were the ideas given by Wrench (except for the "more police" one)

Wrench and buddies, you know that it is just rhetoric from Martin. You guys will find ways to keep your guns.

And even if you're not, is it really that big of a deal. Are you really defined by your guns; can you not live without them?

Yep. That shovel and gun thing was also waay too overboard too. There's a real defensiveness about this that I don't like at all. When someone resorts to saying stfu this early on in the debate you know they don't have much to back their position up with.

Aside from shooting ranges, why does anyone need a handgun?

It's all that inbreeding! I like guns, I think that they have a place in some peoples lives and that's kool (I would never have one in my home but that's just me). However 4, 18 year olds rolling in the Honda Civic around Toronto with .45's in their pockets should be in jail no questions asked.
