I sure hope that accountant isn't too busy. |

related question. I have never filed for taxes in Korea, but according to the guy at the tax office here, that's not a problem as my employer probably did it for me(?!!!!)
Is there any chance Revenue Canada would require proof that I paid taxes here? |
If you're a non-resident, there's no reason why the CCRA would care if you paid income tax to the Koreans or not. I live in a country where there's *no* local income tax, and this has no bearing on my non-residence status with Canada.
The only people who would be concerned about whether you've paid into South Korean tax are the South Koreans.
However, there is the related issue that you brought up in your post earlier in the thread - if the Canadians say you're still a resident and want money on your Korean earnings, you can subtract what you've paid to the South Koreans from your Canadian tax bill. This is one of the main effects of the much understood "tax treaty". |

I'd say there is a very good chance they want to see some evidence that you've paid your Korean taxes, especially if you're claiming Korean taxes on your income tax return and you're going to be paying Canadian taxes. I'd get a printout of your taxes paid from a local tax office before you leave Korea, just in case. |
