I feel totally powerless.
I need help and don't have many places to turn.
Advice please!
I was brutally assaulted and spent two weeks in hospital.
As a result my University fired me. So I lost my job.
They took my overtime pay. And gave me no severance.
I had only worked there for three months so the labor law
says I don't have a case to get severance. They say I have a 'civil' case.
They didn't give me notice, or a reason, for firing me other than I hurt their reputation (I was drunk/drinking when I was assaulted).
I've been out of work for a month now. I'm broke.
The guy who assaulted me is supposed to compensate me for my loss.
I told him 8 million.
He thought that included the hospital bill (5million).
So today, two days before he is supposed to start to pay i get a call: he wants to give me 3.
I arrived at the number with the help of a friend.
Million won:
4.2 for lost wages
.5 having to leave the country becasue my visa is canceled.
2 million for food and lodgings
1.5 for future hospital needs (I don't know if the metal plates that are now in my face can come out or not.)
.5 overtime not payed by my university.
2 in emotional damages/reputation.
Total 10.7
I gave him the number 8million won becasue I think that is what I need to get back on my feet. I want to leave Korea. I need serious help.
Please.
Please...
I have been to interviews. Looking for work. I tried to tell them I was in a car accident. It's a hard sell. Only my eyes and face were injured.
Any help would be apprieciated. I want to go home but can't afford it.
I've never asked for help like this before.
I've never been in this much need.
I... |

Sorry to hear that terrible story. I'm not sure I understand what you're asking for, however -- advice for what to do next? I'm guessing you should be looking at the law site (someone else can link you to it) for that. |

Maybe it's worth a visit to your Embassy. They probably won't help you directly with your legal fight, but they can give you phone numbers of who to contact, and if you are in desperate need of a way to contact somebody back home for help (money) and have no other way, I believe they do help in emergencies. |
