Ok this has been done before. But its kinda fun. Mostly because I've met so many I lost count!!

Oh, and post a picture.

Me first: former star Trek Actor Patrick Stewart.
Where: in an exclusive Bar in one of London's swankiest districts. Spoke to him briefly, can't remember what I said.
Impression: a calm and genuine person, kind and with a nice smile.:

Ok..another one..

Nigel Havers: well known English actor.
Where: in same aformentioned bar. I was stood a yard away from him as he carried on a long conversation over the phone. He had just started a new TV mini-series at the time. About early 1999.
Impression: Quite a focussed and detached individual.

Ok..another one.

Super famous Welsh Singer Tom Jones.
Where: In same bar. Said hello, was acknowledged.
Impression: A short and stocky guy, surrounded by several close friends. Reserved and calm, with a constant lazy smile. Great guy, warm and good humoured. I post the following picture because i swear he was wearing the exact same jacket pictured. Oh yeah- and- he likes his Guiness.

I met Stephen Collins, star of the TV series "7th Heaven" at a WB party. My girlfriend was invited because she was working for a website that was doing some kind of ratings tracking for the network. We thought long and hard about what to say to him and decided to go with... "We loved you in Star Trek one." (Remember he was the guy who ended up melding with V///GER.) He seemed like a nice guy, made a comment about how that was 20 years ago and he was glad he was still recognizable at his present age.

Stephen Collins:

We also met the guy who played the vampire "Spike" on "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer", who told us that they spraypainted his hair that color because he was afraid if they bleached it every episode, he'd end up bald. We saw a couple other actors that my girlfriend knew but I didn't, because that was the year (2000) that I gave up TV. Definitely none of the big names were there. I was hoping for Alyson Hannigan but she didn't show.

Kieran Prendergast Current Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, United nations. i met him when he was UK High Commisioner to Zimbabwe in 1992.

This one was a chance meeting at the border post into Mozambique.
I was standing beside my pick up truck outside customs waiting. He pulled up in his official emblazoned government vehicle, and rather breathlessly ran over to me asking something. Not absolutely sure what he said, i think it was wether the road had been safe from beira to machipanda, as I'd just come through that way.

Impression: A rather intense man, with that unmistakeable air of British upper class superiority- although nice enough I suppose.

Ok..I'm on a roll...and while I'm on Politicians..

Bishop Abel Muzorewa, former prime minister and nationalist leader of the coalition govt of Zimbabwe-Rhodesia. He held office for only a few months in 1979.

Where: in Harare, about 1993. He was strolling down the street carrying a briefcase, with a very jovial and amusing fashion. A short and portly type of guy.

Ok last one for now...

Romano Prodi

Current EU Commision president and Italian politician.
Where: Milan, Italy about 1995. Saw him doing a TV interview with reporters a few yards away.
Impression: Although a short and burly guy, he has a certain commanding, determined presence and very smart, well tailored appearance.

Peter Mandelson Current EU Trade Commisioner: former scandalous politician in Tony Blairs Labor govt.

Where: strolling the quiet back streets of Park Lane, london, 1999. he is slender and tall, appears far away in thought without much attention to his surroundings. definitely a serious and powerful politician. I nearly bumped into him actually. It was around the time he had been much in the newspapers for some discrepancy/ revelation in his policies.
better stop there for now as I've met/seen about 100 more famous people in fairly ordinary circumstances.

ok, I got an autograph from David Justice (former baseball all-star, for you non-Americans) but the funny thing, I was wearing a friends basketball shirt for my college. he signed my ticket, looked up at me confused, and asked "you play basketball?" this is funny because i am 5'5" and white...(maybe 165 cm....)

Robert Mugabe Despotic President of Zimbabwe.

Where: Bulawayo, 1992. I was working at the All Africa Trade fair when he showed up with his entourage. He walked past me a few feet awy, the people cordoned off by numerous bodyguards weilding AK47's.

-And of course I've been driven off the road by his motorcade several times.

Impression: A fairly small and lightly built man of clear intelligence and studied intensity. He is attended by aides on all sides and pays little attention to them. His educated, bespectacled look belies a fearful reputation.

Nathan Shamuyarira Zimbabwe foreign minister

Ok i talked to him for about 5 minutes at the aforementioned trade exhibition, showing him around my company's advertising and explaining plastics manufacture.
Impression: an easygoing and approachable politician who is prepared to listen.
Oh yes: I was good friends with his nephew at school.

Sebastian Coe Former record Olympic Gold medallist.

1998. I was living in Camborne, Cornwall at the time he had begun campaigning to be elected as a serious politician. First he gave a sort of serious nod of the head to me as his election vehicle stopped beside mine at the traffic lights. then later a representative of his knocked on my door to see if I wanted a personal visit from him to ask for my vote. I declined, as I was going out beering that evening.

Impression: He takes himself a little seriously and feels self important. I think he was annoyed that he was not elected, as he was a respected athlete formerly.

Park geun hye GNP Leader/ SK politician

When: last year, at the demo in Gwangwhamun. I was hanging out with a well known journalist friend of mine (who will remain nameless). She mistook me for a reporter and started talking in English about the demo, before I politely directed her to my friend.
Impression: intelligent, articulate and likeable.

grr... I don't know how to post an image, but I met
Tom Selleck in Honolulu about 20 years ago. He was driving his
black Porsche 911, and girls were running to get a kiss.
Next day, my sister and I drove a rental car to where he was shooting.. Magnum PI, I guess.
She asked, " Where can I find Tom?" They totally blew us off.
Probably cause we were both sipping alcoholic beverages.
