I just saw "King Kong" expecting it to be predictable but mildly entertaining with over-the-top special effects -- but it knocked my socks off! It's three hours long, the plot is well-written and totally engrossing, the characters are amazingly well-developed. None of what happens is predictable, I was completely caught up. Even the ending is great, with a climax on the Empire State Building that should please King Kong purists. Wow. I'm gonna see it again tomorrow!
Oh, and BTW the actress was fine. I was a little bit right about the OTT special effects, but I don't care. |

I remember Jessica Lange being the sexiest thing in my middle school
"Repertoire." She was HOT. I'll definitely see the remake. |

The reviews have been pretty good eventhough it's an action movie. I saw the trailer yesterday, and it seems like good fun. I'll check the movie listings later today. |

Maybe the Kiwis can answer this, but has Peter Jackson ever made a bad movie? Hell, years before LOTR I saw The Frighteners and thought it was better than I expected; saw it again last year on OCN and thought it was just as good that many years later. |

Actually the trailer is misleading... there's much more to the story, and in fact there are several important characters who don't appear in the trailer. |

It's a superb movie. However, it just reminded me why I don't like people. |

I liked the action sequences. Some parts seemed pretty fake though.
I don't want to give the movie away, but if you like the Indiana Jones types then you will like this badly acted film.

not really.. he is the master of gore splatter horror flicks..
all his early kiwi flicks had cult following..
and my link to him is..
does anyone remember Braindead?
well in that movie Lionel lived in a a big white house!
well I lived in that same house the movie was shot!
of course in the movie it was only used for exterior shots.. and the interior was shot at the studio.. but the house was cool ..
and I lived there for a months..
it was 4 apartments by the time I lived there..
and I lived in the leftwing up stairs. and my mate was the only right wing upstair. no one was downstairs at the time..
was cool..
peter jackson is big time now!!
I would love if he directs one of the next NARNIA pictures.. of even harry potter!!! would be WICKED!! |

I just got home from seeing it. It was a good movie, no doubt, but too long. The first hour could have been cut down to about 10 minutes and not have lost anything important. And the ending was really anti-climactic.
Oh well, it was a solid movie. Nothing great, but not crap.
Oh, and about the "has Peter Jackson ever made a crap movie" question, does anyone remember Meet The Feebles? At least I'm pretty sure that was the title.

I agree, too long. I think they could have cut at least 2 minutes out of the brontosaurus rolling scene alone. I found myself saying, 'OK, I GET IT! NEXT SCENE. PLEASE!'
Great flick, but loooooooooong. So long that I don't feel like watching it again anytime soon.
Loved it, but I find it purely stupid to spend millions on graphics to make it seem realistic while totally ignoring the fact that humans can easily die from whiplash! While fighting, Kong whipped her around like she was a match burning his fingers, and she wasn't even injured. It wasn't for any short amount of time, either. |

Yeah there were some logical inconsistencies... like why was the big wall in such disrepair if people still lived on it? And why were the people so dirty and nasty if they lived on the seashore? And why didn't Kong just jump over the wall or through any of the many visible gaps? Where are Kong's family? Why does nobody mention that Kong is female? What's the deal with the sea captain who keeps coming to the damn rescue?
One thing that I liked is that nobody ever mentions the dinosaurs. I want to see it again to check but I think that they literally never mention them even once. They run from them, shoot them, get killed by them, but nobody mentions them verbally. It's like there's nothing that needs to be said. |

Well, I think that they took care of that question by showing that Kong enjoyed living on the island (looking at the "beautiful" sunset). Maybe the walls keeping Kong on the island were meant to be in its head. In any case, it's implied that the stone walls were also to protect Kong from outsiders. And Kong's family is dead, hence the skelletons.

Why would he bother? Where's he gonna go? As the film shows you, he's a vegetarian, so he's not going to be looking for the natives for food.
And as for the family, I think it was pretty obvious that during the movie, you see another Kong skull/skeleton. It appears that his partner is long since dead. |
