Hi all,
I have been offered a teaching position in Jinju. I am not sure if I really want to return to Korea but I thought I might as well do a bit of research on the area any how. I know it is a small town and I don't have a problem with that.
So for those of you who are there, and those of you who have taught there in the past, what does Jinju have to offer? I am not into the bar scene.
Thanks to all,

Small town? Try walking around it. It's a city, or very big town... but yeah, relatively speaking, "town" might describe the lifestyle better - except for the plenty of great restaurants.
Jinju is a NICE place, has a great river to walk along or bike.
It's located not far from Namhae Island, where Sangju beach makes for great summer saturday fun (I travel several hours to go there, at least two or three times every year).
Jinju is close to Jiri national park for good hiking.
It's now closer to Tongyong and Geoje because last week a new express highway has opened up to there.
It's also not too far from Masan and Changwon for shopping trips.
I like Jinju! I've been there over a dozen times and would gladly put it on my shortlist of places to live in Korea.
If you get really serious about moving there, lik eif you are about to sign a contract, then I'll put you in contact with a couple of foreigners living there to get more details. |

I liked JinJu when I spent a summer camp there.
Its close enough to lots of other excursions.. plus has a few sight-seeing places downtown.
Its also one of the 'good' smalltowns in Korea. There are very few places I'd live in Korea outside of Seoul.. but Gangwon-do I liked a lot.. and I liked that region around JinJu. |

I've heard they have their own movie theater now;
At least that's one of my students told me. He said this means Jinju is officially not a town or "countryside" anymore. |

Lived there for 4 years, wonderful place, everything that the other posters have said about is true...
...except for the movie theaters. Not serious comment I know, it's just I have an axe to grind, because Jinju had maybe 4 old ones but then 3 or 4 nice new ones (and a new shopping mall/center) opened a couple of months after I moved... |
