| What's the deal? It's not like I'm a party animal or anything. Seems I can't get the right medication fro the pharmacist or something. I'm eating healthy. Anyone else having this problem? |

| good guess, actually. just passed the 4 month mark. i've had bouts with my stomach and eating plenty of yoghurt has helped tremendously. but now it just seems like my nose won't stop running no matter what i do. i'm generally a healthy person and havent't had a cold in almost 2 years. now people at work think i am sickly and don't know how to take care of myself. i'd chuckle, but my throat hurts. |

| I had something like that going on earlier this fall. I gave up and went to the doc, just to make sure it wasn't bronchitis. Doc gave me antibiotics and I was fine a few days later. ( still not sure the antibiotics had anything to do with it though) |

| I am four months into my second contract and have had everything going. It's driving me bonkers. Yes and I am normally extremely healthy too. Roll on the Spring I say! |

Same here, 3 week cold....and usually always healthy.
so took Friday off and went to the doc. Great service, diagnosed with a nasal infection. Gave me nasal spray (steroid) and antibiotic regiment. 3 types of pills over 10 days.
I usually NEVER take this stuff beleiveing it really does contribute to lowered immune system response. But in this case I am trying, can't keep up the ginger tea deal too much longer or my stomach will rot out...Will let you know if it works...My high quality ginseng drink that I down every morning never gave me much protection (nor erection). Was also told by a colleague that when with a cold , don't drink/take ginseng. Anyone know if that is true?????
DD
PS> I went to the International Clinic in Itaewon. Was told differing opinions prior but I only have good things to say.....cheap (with health coverage, efficient and professional) |

had some long bout of sniffles, but didn't think it was worth getting checked out
korea has compromised my food tolerance though...i can't eat late at night, and i have to make sure my diet is fairly well balanced.
with the huge lack of hand washing over here, do you think that helps build up the immune systems or just spread around a lot of nasties?
it seems like everyone is sniffling and hacking up phlem balls, but i can't tell if it's just from smoking |

| Yeah, I've had a cold since mid-November. I think it's a series of colds. They're stacked up like airplanes waiting to land. Once one touches down, there's another one coming in for a landing. You will get a lot of colds from your kids. Diet won't help a lot. Washing your hands will. |

| Was healthy as an ox back home, here I get a cold in the winter. By that I mean, I get a cold in the winter, all winter. I've finally caught it this year and expect to be sick until March, if past experience is anything to go by. But, oh, I hope it's not true. |

| but this is simply ridiculous. how are we all sick and there is no relief? i asked for a supply of US pharmaceuticals for christmas, but there has to be something we can do here. also, can one expect to be sick year after year? or is this a case of newbie flu? |

| black market "so I can rest" meds week after week can get one through the winter. Though, I would never participate in such nefarious business, really. One time a pharmacy gave me this warm, medicinal-tasting drink. I felt better the next day. I've tried searching for it but whatever warm medicinal drinks I've tried since then haven't worked. |

one time when i really felt awful my stepmom actually poured me three shots of tequila. i went to sleep and felt great the next day. sort of like old school frontier medicine.
the other thing i wanted to say in my last post is that i'm from chicago, so i should be used to this kind of inclement weather. also, i'm only 27! i've read other posts on this site by people from toronto who are surprised at the temperature as well. feels like burning! |

That's one thing they don't tell you in the "what to bring" list. Deodorant. Check. But they never say "dude, lay in a year's supply of your favorite cold meds." I went back to Canada and bought a heap of Neocitrin.
You might not yet have encountered the Korean habit of a) going to the hospital for a common cold b) being yelled at by your boss for not going to the hospital for something as deadly as the common cold c) being offered all kinds of unsavory Korean "cures" for the common cold. |
