And they actually expect people who have been involved in corruption to admit it. The usual "quality" (lol) Korean journalism that I've come to expect here.
A survey about topics such as 'corruption' isn't going to get you a realistic view of whats actually happening in any society. How about spending some time researching and gathering information, like journalists are supposed to do, and give an honest appraisal of what's really happening, not just the rosy outlook on it that Koreans want to hear. A good place to start would be the dealings that many Koreans have with foreigners here.
I'm not trying to put sh#t on Korea. It's just that if they honestly believe those statistics are correct from a small survey like that, they're more gullable than I thought. No matter what country you're in, a survey like that wouldn't get you honest statistics. |

Korea does very badly. Not nearly the worst, but very badly for a first world economic power. Of the major countries providing esl teachers in Korea New Zealand does the best at number two in the world. |

That's my own thought. You classify them as third world? Thier economic status would suggest they have joined the first world catagory, I guess. Unless you have another theory. |

| Hopefully we'll soon move beyond outdated First/Third World classifications. |

Ha! Good one!
I'll just say this much, though it's purely anecdotal in nature:
In five years, I haven't had a single job here in Korea which didn't REQUIRE that I work illegally. It was either work illegally for a week or two or three before making the visa run, or work illegally off-location for a corporate client or, in one case, "Hey, guess what? We're going to tell Immigration that you're working at another location altogether, OK? Memorize the location in case you're asked any awkward questions in Osaka."
One of these employers was a very well-known law firm, another a well-established adult hakwon.
Let's just say that if my NEXT employer had me doing something illegal . . . it would hardly surpise me.
Nine-five percent of Koreans not corrupt? I doubt that five percent are anything close to law-abiding.
And no, I don't hate it here. It's mostly good. But you've gotta look at these things honestly, as I see it.

| I'm curious about the number of parents who have bribed teachers and the number of teachers who have accepted bribes. For some reason, the number 5% doesn't leap to mind. I don't know why. |

Korea always wants to be first in anything, so they should embrace the ol' corruption. This is something that they have a chance of winning for real!
But seriously, 95% sure does sound like a made-up number. And the method of obtaining it ("Excuse me sir... are you corrupt?") is a little questionable. |

I even gave you a link man! They dont have a hope in hell of getting close to being the most corrupt country in the world. That honor goes to Bandladesh and Chad with 1.7 out of ten. Korea gets a 5, the US a 7.6, and New Zealand a 9.6. |
