Steven Spielbergs 9/11 Obsession
The directors films this year deal with Sept. 11 and its aftermath
Steven Spielberg doesn't shy away from controversial topics. Even the action flick, "War of the Worlds," seems to address the horrors of Sept. 11.

The pair of films that Steven Spielberg released in 2005 couldnt be more different. First was the special effects-laden War of the Worlds, the latest cinematic version of H.G. Wells 19th century novel, that invaded multiplexes this past summer; the second, Munich, is a rich, multi-layered political thriller that ranks as one of his best. The latter film, which opens on Dec. 23, is a dramatic meditation on Israels response to the 1972 Munich Olympics, where 11 members of its national team were murdered by Palestinian terrorists.
Together both movies serve as bookends to the same events: September 11, 2001 and the cultural shift that began on the morning of Sept. 12 when we woke up to a world where the Twin Towers and nearly 3,000 of our fellow Americans no longer existed.

Wow! Two films. Am I obsessed if I read two books by the same author? |

I think "preoccupied with for over a year" would be more precise language than "obsessed with"... |

I'm surprised the MSNBC writer doesn't mention THE TERMINAL, which is a pretty obvious satire on Homeland Security. |
