As a bonus I did get Anthony Keidis' autobiography. Should be a few good sordid tales to be had

There are laws against what you just did. And rightly so.

I'm opening my presents on the 23rd (with good reason: will be in Thailand for Christmas day) and feel bad about that!
What is wrong with me? I'm not even a big holiday person, where did this guilt about opening presents early come from? First Christmas alone?

I've opened other people's presents early though...then rewrapped them...is that bad? Smile

Im lucky to have a mom who sends me gifts Smile I got a stocking today and I am seeing how long my willpower can last before I dig through it.. hehe.. honestly, I already dug through half of it.. just wanted to make sure there was nothing in there that would spoil! Wink

I learned my lesson though. One Christmas when I was young I looked for all my gifts. I was quite the investigative one. I found a few that way. Then, when they were wrapped under the tree I unwrapped them then gently rewrapped them before my mom got home.

That was a very unsurprising and lame Christmas. I learned my lesson and now wait to open *most* of my gifts.

We (my wife and I) got our presents from our family a week ago. My wife told me we HAVE to wait until Christmas to open them. I guess we will wait FI.

When I was a kid, we always opened gifts on Christmas Eve -- not because my sister and I couldn't wait, but because our father couldn't. These days, though, my family generally mails gifts late enough that we're lucky if they arrive the week after Christmas. No early unwrapping here. Crying or Very sad

The only presents I have so far are the ones from my students and I opened them when they gave 'em to me.

I suppose I'll get a package from my folks this week sometime, but I didn't ask for anything special--just goodies--so they probably won't be wrapped.

I'm gonna have to wait till I have kids or something to have a proper gift opening bonanza. Laughing

In the past (been here six years) I would open them straight away, and so, like someone mentioned, that's probably why my Christmases here have been so lame. But this year my wife is pregnant, and naturally thinking about kids made me remember how the thrill of anticipation meant that Christmas Eve was the one night of the year 9 year-olds were too excited to sleep for instance. But she's Korean and has no idea about that sort of thing, so I want her to finally experience a little of what Christmas is like in Western countries.

Besides which, from next year (or maybe the one after that, when it figures out what Christmas is) I can't expect my kid to wait to open presents if I don't myself!

So, I finally got my box from my mom. Dang, my mom is so cool. I asked for two little food things and she sent me a whole box of cool stuff. I haven't opened everything--just the Applets & Cotlets (cuz I had already guessed what they were) and the stocking stuff.

To be honest, though, I haven't opened the other things because they look so cute & colorful under my cute little tree. Very Happy

I just didn't have the heart to leave that gorilla in the box under the tree.

So sad with the beating on the box and the cries at night.

Now he's in the kitchen making jam and excrement sandwiches.

So cute.

I'm copying the URL to this thread and e-mailing it to my mom (what is Christmas really without inflicting guilt trips on one's family), who, for the past 6 Christmases, invariably writes me a week or so before Christmas to tell me that she's been so busy, was only able to send the package today, and apologizes, meanwhile trying to put a spin on things by saying that the little girl will, in effect, actually have 2 Christmases.

But you know what, Mom? Screw you. Yes, screw you.

Unless you bought me seasons 2-6 of The Twilight Zone: The Definitive Collection. In that case we're peachy.

1) My parents sent me one wrapped gift, which I haven't opened, plus a few unwrapped things, mostly candy. They sent a case of 75 candy canes, which I shared with my students. This is something they send every year that I'm abroad. They also sent an LL Bean gift certificate... this is something that every Maine-iac either gets or gives in any normal year. It's sort of our state's flagship brand. I plan to check out the LL Bean store in Japan when I'm there the week after next. (All young Maine-iacs are raised on the legend of a second, parallel universe sort of LL Bean megastore in Tokyo... got to see if it's real!)

2) Tiberious AKA Sparkles is a girl? I guessed wrong. I thought it was a gay guy with names like that.
