It looks like Canadians have lots of time on their hands. There was a time when scientific, human endurance and commerical accomplishments were triumphed but the laws discussed in these threads seem like leisure time pursuits. More jobs come from the patent office. |
It`s not a case of either or. Social laws are important, as they profoundly affect they way we interact as a group. Jobs and money and development are important. But why do we do all that? Is it something we pursue as an end unto it`s self? I don`t think so. We pursue wealth to enhance our quality of life. Social laws affect our quality of life. And there is nothing about this law the degrades the ability to create jobs and profit and development. I see you comment as essentially meaningless and irrelevent. |

If you do a search of his posts, I am fairly confident that you will discover he is one of those who sits in his underwear in his shoe-box apt, eyes shifting nervously left to right, a sheen of sweat covering his skinny body, wondering, "Who can I upset tonight?" |

He also dated that woman who played Lois Lane in the Superman movie...
And he knocked up some lawyer woman when he was 78. And Maggie Trudeau was like 21 or something when he married her. He was late 50s.
My dad's lab was just around the corner from his home. My dad would see the man from time to time walking on the street. One day I walked by his house and took some photos:
His house was quite famous for a pool Trudeau had the RCMP install. Many refer to Trudeau's house as a mausoleum.
And who could forget this classic moment when he did his famous pirouette behind the Queen.
I'm sorry but any other country can only suck until you get a leader who dances behind the Queen's back. |

Did you not read the EX-coke user part?
By your logic, Bill Clinton and George Bush should both be in the slammer too. |

I'm not saying they SHOULD be in the slammer. I'm saying that it's hypocritical if people think that it's no big deal for a politician to have used coke, while supporting laws that subject unlucky coke users to career-destroying criminal proceedings.
And yes, the same goes for Bush and Clinton voters who support the "war on drugs". |

Fair enough. On the other hand (pun intended) find me someone in gov't who hasn't messed up at some point or another in their lives and I'll show you an empty legislative chamber. We're all part of the big human family who *beep* up. Mom, Dad, The President.
The difference is having the mind set of being able to forgive self-confessed past indiscretions and leaving it at that, or rigidly maintaining the Sword of Damocles over someone's head and grinding them down about it forever--which in my view serves no other purpose except to make the grinders feel more righteous and better about themselves. |

It's another step in the wrong direction for Canada. Canada was founded upon righteous foundations, where many of the founding fathers of our great country were Christians.

Id say some of the sex they get up to in those places in quite righteous indeed! |

Dick, Canada was founded out of fear of invasion from America. It wasn't found to be your Christian fundamentalist theocracy. Whatever you think was on the minds of the founding fathers (does anyone but America use that term?), you'll notice that the vast majority of Canadians today want to determine their own moral code. They don't want fundamentalist loons interpreting the bible and passing laws based on those interpretations. So thanks for the concern about my moral welfare but shove off. |

It was the Irish who founded our country . Irish nationals in America were angry at England and decided to invade Ontairo. Some Americans also jumped on the bandwagon a little after, but they were repulsed. This got people thinking we really should get together. There were ofcourse other factors, but defense was one of the main ones.
Actually, many of the extreme religious pilgrims were way down south. Canada had the settlers who just wanted to start a new life or new businesses. There wasn't really a lot of religion (comparily to the time) in British Canada. |

Let's not forget Trudeau's wife (estranged) hanging out in Studio 54. There was a famous paparazzi photo of her in Studio 54 in a mini skirt and sans panties. The gates of heaven fully open.

And her shoes were pretty cool, too.
