So I'm at the gym doing my daily routine: an hour on the treadmill while I watch the TV in front of me. I usually watch CSI, but today it was Korean MTV and its assortment of ridiculous videos (with the sound turned down, of course).

After watching three straight videos of girly boys beating up other girly boys for the love of a woman, a 1TYM video came on. For those not cool enough to know, 1TYM is part of the YG Family (that is, Young Gangster Family Entertainment), a bargain-bin version of the Wu-Tang and their extended clan (they even have a member who goes by the moniker of Master Wu).

Anyway, their video (didn't catch the song title) blew me away for its inspired ability to cram nearly every single American gangster rap cliche into one 3 minute video. There were guns everywhere... shotguns, pistols, automatic weapons. There were bouncing cars, angry looks, bandanas tied up to cover faces (getting ready to pull a drive-by, I suppose), and one member of the group had HATE tattooed on his knuckles. Needless to say, they looked like clowns (it was even more amusing because there was a pleasant "Merry Christmas" graphic incongruously placed on the upper right of the screen).

So I'm watching this, and two things come to mind. First, why are these guys so angry? Did their moms cut their Saebae pocket money allowance? And second, how on earth could any sane person watch such a video and not come to the conclusion that they are the biggest bunch of wannabe poseurs to ever pick up a mic? What group of Korean consumers buys into this kind of shit?

And at the risk of sounding like an old fart, I think the YG Family deserves to be criticized for introducing this sort of gun-toting gangsta posturing to the Korean music scene. Besides being blatantly silly, its an entirely unnecessary aspect of American hip-hop that didn't need to be imported.

becuase they are trying to be the hardest out there!
trying to over top the others and they think the only way to do it is to copy mainstream american bad gangster rap! everyone else is copying american hip hop but its getting old so they need to go to the next step!
but the sad thing is, they have no cred rapping with guns and talking about guns and doing drive bys etc!! becuase that kind if life is NOT in korea!! next we are going to see koreans rapping about HO's, CRACK, and smoking WEED everyday!! which will just confuse the people!!
their lyrics have no cred except when they rap about HIGH SCHOOL life!!
and how much they have to study! thats pretty much the extent of their hate lyrics with street cred!
that songs beat was pretty good, and the video was alright!
but its a copy at its best of american culture, but still better than most of the other stuff floating around!!

also 1tym are idiots! the rapper got him a DUI and cause an accident for drinking driving a couple days after their album release, it took about 2 years to release this album and he goes and does something stupid like this. so the fine as it all is for entertainers he is not allowed to work in showbiz for 1 year! so dont expect to be seeing him anytime soon!

I think YG is focusing most of their attention on Seven.. still I like
some of Yg's music especially when Perry was doing most of the music for them!

Funny thing is that even angry I would laugh at these guys. I mean really...look at them.

1: Pretty as girls (cosmetic surgery to look more like a female).
2: About as strong as wet paper and they weigh less.
3: Never, and I mean never been in a real fight.
3: Know all about guns from watching Rambo.

These guys have nothing to say and they know nothing about the material they sing about. They are a joke. If someone wanted to hurt them, they would be running as fast as possible to their mommies (they still live with them).

Just change the channel and forget about them...like the Koreans usually do. They make almost no money even here in Korea.

1) not wear makeup
2) stick their chopsticks straight up into their rice
3) stay in line
4) not beat their girlfriends
