Bourquetheman, I am worried about that happening to me. I have a good relationship with everyone at my school (particuarly the VP and P) and I find it difficult to believe that they would fail to honour their word. Still, if they don't there is nothing I can do about it. The school has already sent a form to the education office showing my intention to renew (did anyone else have to fill in this form?), but it isn't actually a contract so it's not too late to change my mind.

Thery are trying to copy the JET program in Japan. There is a limit on how long you can work for them. I think it is two years. People used to be eager to work there so they limited the years allowed. Probably GPIK thought the supply of teachers would be very high so they can do what they want (they are probably right).

Chances are the Korean English teachers don't want you to renew your
contract, or the school feels you have no wish to do so and prefers to
save face by avoiding your refusal. Normally foreign teachers find out by
mid-December, if not earlier. You can be sure that your co-teachers had
a behind-closed-doors meeting with the principal to discusss and decide on
your renewal. Perhaps you have already been told what I've been told in
the past: the principal has decided to hire a teacher from an other native
English speaking country so that the kids get a variety of accents, idioms,
and cultural expressions, or that the female students requested a female
teacher. In my case, these were false excuses, as I later discovered. But
that's beside the point. Just keep in mind, regardless of whether you made
enemies at your school or you taught well, the Korean co- teachers usually have
the final word about renewing a foreign teacher's contract and even hiring him. Cool

Should I be worried? Nobody has said anything to me about it. But then my contract is till Aug next year.

This is exactly why I asked for and got a two year contract last year. I hate the insecurity that comes with this line of work.
