This is both hilarious and disturbing.

Hilarious because what could the grounds of a legal suit be? "Hey, this guy is the cat's pajamas. I think you should set up a well-funded lab and turn him loose."

Disturbing because they are seeking the long-missing 'blame the foreigner' angle.

Damn those recommendations and the way you MUST follow them!!! (Although this foreigner can't recall his Korean boss ever following his recommendations about anything).

Disturbing that it took them this long.

Instead of suing Schatten, that bad advice-giver, why not just double the taxi fares for American passengers until the damages have been recouped?

I once shared a flat with a friend at university who, despite his uncle and cousin both being horse trainers, cost me two months' stipends on bad recommendations. I'm tracking that fucker down! 19 years' compounded interest? Santa hits the Guru's twice this year! Cool

If they decide to go on with this suit, what legal advice would you give Schatten?

Strategy #1:
"Fellas, when I said Woo-Suk was the finest scientist since Galileo, I had my fingers crossed and I was doing that wiggly thing with my eyebrows. I'm not responsible for you not getting the message."

Strategy #2:
You actually took advice from ME? Pu-ha-ha-ha-ha! How gullible can you be?

Strategy #3:
????????

I love how they work everything out to be someone else's fault. In the end he will walk away with the money and the general public will blame the Americans (somehow). Korea makes me sick sometimes. In the West he would be heading to jail for fraud (or at least in court).
He is even now trying to twist everything around to show how he was innocent and everyone else was responsible. No honor in Korea, no ethics, nothing but greed and lies. A japanese person would have committed suicide from the shame by now, but not a Korean...he will lie forever.
