This was in this mornings Chosun Ilbo. Being teachers, we can't avoid 'public places' or being in contact with other people.

Flu Alert Issued by KCDC

The countrys health authority has issued a nationwide influenza warning. The Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said Friday that they issued the warning as the number of patients reporting flu-like symptoms exceeded the warning level of 7.5 out of every 1,000 people. As of the second week of December, the number stood at 9.63 people.

A KCDC official said, Given that the number of patients reporting flu-like symptoms is the highest it's been in the last three years, we look to be set for an especially severe flu season.

The flu, which is contracted through the respiratory system, manifests symptoms including high fever, headache, muscular pain, cough and phlegm build up, whereas the common cold usually just brings runny nose, cough and phlegm.

The public are advised to keep away from public places and make sure to wash their hands and brush their teeth when they return home. More importantly, people should be vaccinated. The vaccination is particularly critical for the elderly, who have a great risk of suffering complications brought about by influenza.

I wonder if that is what I have?

high fever--not high, but it's there...sometimes higher sometimes lower

headache--for the past week or so yes

muscular pain--would have cried myself to sleep last night if I hadn't remember that Icy Hot stuff I have and slathered it all over myself

cough--Ugh, yes. If I speak, I can barely get control again. worse at night or when I lie down

phlegm build up--*sings* great green globs of greasy grimy phlegm

A few weeks ago, fellow co-workers began getting the flu and kept coming to work and infecting others. I got it on Thursday and am home sick today, Tuesday. This one is bad. Lots of congestion and coughing, aching muscles and fever. Every time you wake up in the night with your tshirt drenched in sweat, you feel like the fever may have broken, but it doesn't break and you get the shivers all over again.

I've heard rumors that this flu came from California. How do people know this? Is there some kind of FLU TRACKER? or what...

The only positive thing about all of this is the weather. It's beautiful and sunny here today.

Sorry you guys are feeling poorly. Hope everyone recovers by Sat. so they can go out and get sick from overdrinking alcohol. (Or however you choose to celebrate the new year.)

Yes, they do. The responses on this thread have convinced me to get my first ever flu shot early next week.
