Ok, my old boss, Mr. Kim at Ivy English School in Cheongju has done pretty crappy stuff. According to one recruiter he has been going out of his way to try and prevent another school in Cheongju from hiring me.
Well I just had a call from another recruiter tonight. It just happens that she was also the boss at the first hagwon I worked at. She has been looking for work in Cheongju for me.
Of course he used the standard BS to trash me with her. But there is something he attributed to me that is just so moronic that all I could do is laugh when she told me. He claims I trashed her to him many times, and that I said when a teacher was at her school for 10 months she made us stand in the corner for the last 2 months.
Now I know his English isn't THAT good. Something he uses as a crutch when he lies to you, err I mean has a misunderstanding. (Since their conversation was in korean he can't use that crutch now.) But her English is VERY good. It isn't something she would mess up translating from Korean into English. It is just too stupid. Any credibility he might have had with her was tossed away with that stupid comment.
If you know someone looking for work I would advise you to tell them to stay away from Ivy English School in Cheongju. Since I got an 11th hour firing, where I was screwed out of my ticket home, bonus, and 1/3 of my pay, I have been putting up with Mr. Kim trying to stop me from getting a job in Cheongju and now this.
Oh well, at least this is laughable. |

Perhaps you could suggest hanging around outside his hogwan with a bilingual K-friend and giving your opinion of him and his hogwan to some of the parents?
So he's accusing you of making teachers stand in the corner or saying you said another place did that to you? This being Korea, making an employee stand in the corner almost sounds plausible. I'm surprised he didn't say it was kneeling in the corner holding a chair over your head. |

Actually he told my old boss I said She used to make teachers stand in the corner for the last 2 months, and teach from the corner.
If I weren't back home I would go out front there with a kfriend. If I hadn't been going back home I would have gone after him in August with the Labour Office.
I just find it hilarious yet intensely stupid that the best lie he could make to tell her I trashed her was that. Who in their right mind would even believe something like that?
He does make an error I see a lot of people make (all over the world) he doesn't seem to think people will talk or check things out. My old boss caught him in another lie by checking it out with the people he threw into it. It was the same working at Ivy English School, the Kim's would tell you something and then tell you not to tell the other teachers. Or tell you something outrageous, and expect you not to look into it. |

This in all seriousness.
You probably have a law suit on your hands. If he is telling out right lies that is causing your character to be flawed you can sue the shit out of him.

Absolutely!
Not only that but "11th hour" firings aren't legal if they are done within the last 15 days of the contract. You may have grounds for suing him for your severance, flight, etc. as well. |

Thanks for the advice and thoughts.
This initially happened in July/August. At the time I just wanted to get the h***l out of Korea and back home. I managed to work a summer camp to get my ticket money. I would imagine it is to late to go after him now, plus I am not in korea.
I started looking into returning to Korea back in late September. I only wanted to come back for a year, so I want to be in a city I know, where my friends are. Which is why I set my sights on going back to Cheongju. I applied for many jobs, had some show interest, and then back off. I figured something was going on but had nothing but suspicion to go on.
A couple of weeks ago a recruiter emailed me to tell me why she can't get me a job in Cheongju. Mr. Kim of Ivy School was trashing me. He has told other directors, and anyone talked to him, that I was a bad teacher, a bad person, and he didn't want me working in Cheongju.
There is a Hagwon Owners Association in Cheongju. Odds are in most cities, but I only know Cheongju. He had bad moutthed me to the association, and any other director who would listen.
The other night I got a call from my 1st boss who is now a recruiter. I already posted what was said to her. The gyst of his reasoning for not wanting me in Cheongju and for trashing me according to her is because he is worried I will say bad things about Ivy School.
If I return I will definitely be looking into going after him for slander. Not much I can do from outside the country though. |
