Update:

for those who asked, I got another email from Joe which sort of said he was French Canadien (I think), then another nasty one after that where he might have gone from feeling bad about his English skills, to being offended by the fact I pointed it out to him.

Anyway, I'm sure Joe is a fine guy, and more power to him for being able to pull-off an English teaching job with what looks to me like fairly weak English skills. I'd just prefer this thread drop out of sight now, as I got a PM from someone who knows Joe, and I'd rather not give the poor guy any more stress than he already probably has.

Heh... I bet Joseph is following this thread and laughing his butt off!
PS: It's not me, my name is Joseph but I'm American, and if I'm leaving my job soon I haven't informed my boss.

Want to know if Joe is a francophone?

Ask him if he likes Pepsi.

If punches you out, then you know he is pure laine.

If it is really bothering you, it is possible to delete it.....or at least all your posts.

I still don't believe that Joe is French. I think the whole thing is a scam set up by a recruiter........ but that's just my opinion.

cheers

Actually, he'd punch you if you said Pepsi sucks.

Well, I can why he would feel that pointing out his mistakes was kind of rude of you. But, he should have made a greater effort at editing it. It was a business related exchange, after all.

La prochaine fois, souvient toi qu'un auteur averti en vaut deux, Joe.

It was rude to point out the mistakes? Give me a break.

If the OP pointed out the mistakes in such as way as to make fun of the writer or to question his intelligence I could see calling it rude. He didn't. Based on the letter he questioned if it was written by a Korean or not. He wasn't being a grammar nazi, or mocking the writer.

The mistakes in the letter are enough to give most people pause. Considering the behaviour of a lot of director's out there the OP was protecting himself from potentialy being lied to by a director. I've heard enough stories about Director's pulling crap like that.

I'd be offended & angry too if I wrote an email to one individual & then found it posted on some forum in full with my name & identifying work details. Whatever I'd had to say & however faultless my grammar, I'd still feel shat upon.

The OP's question may have been legit but theres no reason he couldnt have deleted identifying information. Tactless & very rude, I'd say.

This board is constantly advising people to contact current employees before signing. I imagine a fair number of us have written candid emails to prospective employees. Would you like to see your every word (& name & school) posted here for dissection?

If this guy is for real (mmmmmmdoubt it, ), he has made quite an effort to give you the low down on the school. Even though his English skills are seriously lacking, he may just be a simpleton who plagarised his way through uni.

I seriously suggest you get his phone number, or at least his email (the other teacher).
Recruiters are dodgy buggers who will try to lie their way into the fees they will get for placing you.

As someone else here suggested, if it feels wrong, don't take the job. There are loads of jobs here that are legit.

Good luck.

ps. If you are looking for a job at a legit school, pm me.

I'm not speaking of posting his comments here, but of emailing the guy directly to complain.

A really clever hagwon owner might have sent the fake "Joseph" e-mail with the intention that the mark would post it up here so people could point out the mistakes... it's like a free editorial service. The OP might not take the job... but the next sucker will!

The person is a Korean... probably a secretary or something... and I'd bet a woman on top of that. That's obvious. There are mistakes in the writing and phrasing that I've only ever heard Koreans make. There is no doubt in my mind.

No, it's likely a French Canadian.

..or... who knows?

I taught with a "Canadian" one time. You should see his e-mails. Think he's from Iraq but had a Canadian passport. Oooh! You'd kill yourself laughing. I couldn't believe it. "I go to store buy egg." Seriously.

The OP did not openly mock the guy who 'wrote' this piece of art.

If he calls himself an English teacher and that's the best he can do....hopeless.

MAybe he wrote so bad cuz he didn't hav his pepsi and Jois Louis for breakfast eh!
