Well, what a day!!!! I arrived for my hair appointment at 1.30pm prompt. I advised my 'stylist' i would like a hairstyle known in England as a shoeshine. He assured me that he was familar with this type of style and color as he had trained in London. 'Great', I said. For those of you unfamilar with a shoeshine its basically bleaching certain strands of hair to create a blonde/golden shine.

'I don't want my entire hair bleached and i really don't want it orange', I said. He assured me i'd have neither. So I sat back in my seat in anticipation of what would be a good haircut.

Fast forward to 3pm, the first unveiling. Imagine my shock when i realise most of my hair is a lovely shade of ginger. EXCELLENT. 'This color is not ok for you?', says the stylist with no hint of irony. I explained that this carrot top like barnet wasn't what i'd been expecting. 'I hadn't expected this', I said.

Fast forward to 5pm, my formerly beautiful locks have now been caked in the noixous white bleach for a few hours. I've read the one English magazine from cover to cover about five or six times. I now know that Edward Norton can be quite a demanding actor on set and that Givenchy's Summer 2006 range is a nod back to the classic mod style suits of the 1960's.

The second unveiling, my ginger locks have gone at least, but now all my hair is strikingly blonde/white. I feel like crying. For a moment my eyes did tear up, I'm brave enough to admit. My stylist apolygises profusely and I accept his apology but tell him i'm disapointed to say the least. 'I'm very disappointed', I said. At this point he makes the kind offer of dyeing my hair back to its original color. I tell him i've had enough for now. And god only knows what colour that would have turned out.

I pay him 20k, not the previously agreed 70k. I'm thinking maybe, just maybe I can salvage this without having to succome to the clippers. I walk out and up to KFC to check myself in the mirror. Some girls snigger on my way in. I feel a fool. I look like an albino.

Fast forward to 6pm, i walk into another salon and ask for a skinhead. It cost me 15k, but it was well worth it. And to be totally honest it now looks pretty good. So like they say in every pile if sh@t there is a silver lining.

Let this be a cautionary tale to you all.

Over and out.

Next time...take a photo of what you want.

just find a photo of a hairstyle close to what you want..cut it out of a magazine, whatever. Do it.

Otherwise they will pretend to know what you mean, to appear professional. When its obvous they only know a handful of basic Korean cuts that they repeat a hundred times a week.

At these temperatures, I'd say that silver lining is more akin to Jack Frost. Hope you don't catch cold.

Buy a stocking cap and wait for spring.

Are you a woman or a man?

edit-- I didn't mean that as a genuine question. I meant to say it in a John Wayne kind of voice while poking you in the chest.
