i saw the animation when i was in elementary school.
i was only interested in the lion the witch and the wardrobe...so, i never looked at any of the other books...i don't think i even read the lion the witch and the wardrobe...
if i did, i don't remember it.
but that being said, i don't like disney and i don't know if my childhood memory of the animation can be improved upon so i probably won't see this... |

Just saw it , was a good movie, the kids who played the characters of the children did an alright job! reminds me of the kids who were in harry potter in the first one they only got better.. its best to see this movie through your child eyes. there are some one liners for the grown ups too
I saw it with my 8 year old daughter and she LOVED IT.. she was hanging on the edge of her seat, closing your eyes, and asking me questions through the film,, not as big as LOTR but still a good children movie.
a classic story brought to the screen.. tilda swinton was a great cast! |

| I liked it. It wasn't super fantastic, but it was relatively good (I think for children and parents alike). I particularily liked the queen character compared to the earlier series. |

Saw it yesterday and loved it. The texture of the film was like really fine book illustrations brought to life and the effects were grand.
I think those of us who've read the books will be a bit disappointed as there are a lot of things not developed as well as they are in the book - a result of having to condense the story into however many minutes people can sit still in a movie theatre (and common when 'based on the book' movies are made).
Those who haven't read the books (at least the kids/kids at heart) will prolly be stirred to read them and thus get an even better view of the movie.
I plan to track down the books and re-read the Chronicles asap.
It really was a beautiful film and although, at times, the kids are a little bit too sweet/weepy, it's well worth the money and time.
And as far as the Christian analogy goes, it can be read into it, or you can take it as a hero story - as someone else noted it's very Greek myth-ish - so don't let that be an obstacle to seeing it. |

| Princess, I liked it, and like someone else said Tilda Swinton was great [as she is in nearly everthing she does] but Edmund was weak-there was not a shread of treachery, just a sullen teenager who would be better served if Peter just slapped him around a bit. |

This show had so much to offer, but fell so short.
No character development on Alsan or the witch or any characters you would like to get to know.
Every climatic event in the movie was anticlimatic. The death of Alsan should have been punctuated like the Passion of Christ. It ended up being like a pinonotta(sp) party.
Killing the witch should have brought such drama, but it was over in 2 seconds.
It was so disappointing. Hopefully, they being to develop the characters in the next film.

I saw it in nyc a couple weeks ago, and I liked it. I think I probably cried 5 times. (especially when Lucy goes back to tell the other kids and they don't believe her...) It's doing well in the box office. I hope they make the rest of them. |

Fiveeagles,
I don't want to be mean here but I'm not at all surprised you feel let down by the movie. You decided a while ago when the first trailer came out that it was going to be the most fantastic movie ever made and it didn't live up to your astronomical expectations. Not surprising at all, really.
I've read all the books and I enjoyed them. I have yet to see the movie but when I do, I'm going to go into it with as little expectation as possible so that I can judge the movie as a movie not as a faithful and superbly accurate re-telling of the book. It's like the Lord of the Rings (which I loved). I've read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings once a year every year for about the past 8 years. I love the books and I loved the movies. Why? Well because I went in just hoping to see something that came close to the book and I got a pretty faithful adaptation of the story. They left out tons of stuff that I wanted to see but I can understand why they did and I accept that the movies cannot ever take the place of the books and so I will probably do with the movies what I do with the books: watch them once a year and enjoy the spectacle of it all.
I've always found that if I go in expecting too much from a movie that's adapted from a book I like I always wind up disappointed. Much better to go in with an open mind and just enjoy what comes up on the screen without comparing it to every detail in the book. |

Saw it two nights ago with my fiancee, and I give it a good, solid 9.5 out of 10.
Never having grown up with the Tolkien fixation that most of you seem to have, I didn't care one bit for that trilogy--as well created as it was. The Two Towers was the only one I'd care to own; it was truly epic and the most mythological of the three.
Comparing Harry Potter and the Narnia series is like comparing a Corvette to a Rolls. The movie was such a no-brainer; all they had to do was put the book on the screen as is and watch the moviegoers assemble.
I'd like to have seen Cate Blanchett cast as the queen, however. |

Seems to me they were trying to put too much content into as little time as possible.
I thought it was okay. I especially liked how they set up the story...some people might assume it's okay to cut out the war scene, but that sets up the whole reason they goto the professor's house.
I'd give it like a 7/10 or so....for kids I am sure it is the bomb...for adults it is a tad bit lacking. |

When I first saw the giant poster for this film, I had goosebumps. I couldn't wait to see it, even though that was in the middle of the summer. I loved the book as a child, got me looking into wardrobes just on the off chance...
The movie was good, but not fantastic. The story was pretty faithful, from what I remember, but it just didn't quite translate. However, it was gorgeous and there were some very touching moments. And, although I am usually creeped out by talking animals, they did a good job, and the lion is great. Though I have to disagree about the queen. She just wasn't, hmmm, cold enough for me. I didn't feel the chill from her. As far as Narnia vs. LOTR, they are somewhat different beasts, but I felt that Narnia didn't have the same oomph as LOTR. |

1. The queen's sleigh driver dwarf- isn't he the same guy who was all the oompa loompas? He sure looked like it.
2. Anyone who thought the movie was too overtly religious and thus offensive should really step away from the bong for a while- sure if you think about it there is a Jesus-like ressurection, but if you really want to you can find what appear to be overt religious messages in the Matrix and the Star Wars movies.
3. Yeah, it was faithful to the book and it was okay as a movie. I came away satisfied if not exactly thrilled. |

| I never read the books, though they've been on my to read list for a very long time. I watched the movie today and thoroughly enjoyed it. THe story was great, the acting was good, the sets were fantastic and the CGI was some of the best I've seen. |
