I went to their New Year's Dance Party and was totally disappointed! They charged 60,000won to enter. Then I find there is ONLY vodka and Bailey's to drink! Come on. What a disgrace. Also there was no food!! They had cheap hot dogs and kimbab that wasn't even on the house. This was one of the biggest dissapointments of my stay in Korea. Seoul Grand Hyatt = garbage! (we left after 20 minutes)

The Grand Hyatt can be fun, especially for the embassy balls each year.
Nursed a few hangovers poolside and met many interesting non-ESL business types there.

Wow! That sounds pretty bad. I went to a nice party last night where my friend works. It was by invitation only. She invited me Tuesday. Anyways, when I got out of the taxi they had red carpet for the guests to walk down and a door girl who made sure you were invited. The dress code was black and gold glam style even though I did see a few people in jeans. The bar is on the thrid floor and the elevator opens into the bar. There was no cover charge but you did need an invitation. At the bar, you could choose between champagne, apple martinis, vodka, red wine and tequila. There were servrs going around with trays of food like shrimp spring rolls and chicken satay. The first couple of hours were a little boring but then a jazz band got started up around 11:00. Then there was dancing. Pretty good for Seoul I think.

I was at JJ Mahoneys too, stunk big time. At least you got a free drink and a teddy bear. I didn't even get that since I paid for the New Years package which included a room and admission to the party, if you didn't "pay" the cover charge you got nothing. wound ringing in 06 in my room with a bottle of Sprite I got from the nearby Buy the Way.

Maybe its OK on other nites but it last nite it wasn't.

Are you sure it was by invitation only? Your post left me wondering.

I think if you do a search here you will see someone posted how bad the party was at hyatt last year! I mean its a rip off on normal days!
what did you expect on NYE.. of course it was going to be the biggest rip off in seoul! I bet they were using the 5000won bottle of vodkas too!
the place is a joke.. its a place for rich people or wannabies to go and be seen! and a playground for korean escorts who charge 300.000 won a trick!

yeah i knew it would be overpriced heck everything on New Years is overpriced but 4000 won for a small bottle of water???? I also thought a high end hotel would be a little more classy than it was.

A few weeks ago i went out to the coex intercontinetal for a nice weekend, should of gone there, would of been nicer for 1/3rd less money

My gf and I just cooked a quiet dinner at my place. Made chicken cordon bleu and I introduced the concept of "beer batter" to her. We made beer batter onion rings.

My New Year's Eve I went a little crazy and cooked appetizers for the entire family. It turned out fairly well but now I have a lot of hummus because I didn't pay attention to how much the recipe yielded.
