And I would like to ask one thing too. Why did they change the laws regarding the F-2 a few years back to allow foreign men to qualify whereas before it was only for foreign women?

And I'd like to ask one thing too: why did they have to change it in the first place? Because they didn't want foreign men here, perhaps? Why did they change it? Because enough wives complained, perhaps?

Come on. Okay, so they expect the wife to live in the husband's country. Understandable. But that does not explain why foreign husbands were made ineligible. That they were made ineligible demonstrates that someone thought about the possibility and decided, "No, we don't want 'em here."

Foreign husbands were not MADE ineligible. They were never eligible in the first place. As for why, that has already been explained. Before the influx of English teachers, the vast majority of foreign husbands were military. After their tour of duty was up of course they would return to the States. If the Korean government really didn't want foreign men here, it wouldn't have changed its policy. And there are a LOT of other things it could do to make life more difficult for foreign men if it decided it didn't want them here. They changed it to make it more fair.

Wives were made eligible. Husbands were not. Twist it any way you like. The implication is still clear.

Last time I checked (ten months ago), online information concerning F-2 visas referred to 'foreign wives', not 'spouses'. They never even updated their information. Again, the implication is clear.

It's understandable that Korea doesn't want much migration to here going on. The place is crowded enough. But that's not the only reason we are not wanted. Don't be naive.

Or do. It's up to you.

I am sorry I brought up this topic. Let's just agree to disagree and not bother fighting about something that doesn't matter. It really doesn't matter because things have gotten better lately. We are here to stay and they have to accept it eventually.

This is an interesting thread...

I've been married to a Korean man for almost 3 years. He's an amazing person, but because he doesn't speak any other languages (we use Korean), it's hard for us to hang out with other people. The wives of his friends don't really accept me as anything but a novelty, and he can't communicate with my foreign friends. I've got one friend (5 hours away) who's hubby is Korean, but everyone else I meet is a foreigner with a Korean WIFE. I'd love to meet some people like us - foreign woman with a Korean man. If that couple also happened to speak Korean -- that'd be a bonus! Anyone out there?

I'll third that, which is why I want in, too! Wink

Babtangee, your avatar still freaks me out!! Reminds me of Stripe from the Gremlins~

That's strange. I didn't accept the ad type things on registration but it allowed my registration anyway.

Mithridates also opened a forum as part of his website. He's testing this: http://galbijim.com/forum/index.php?

Registration is very easy with a name, id, and e mail address. Doesn't require checking options about ads.

Well, good job then.

So I think this is the site we have settled on then. Seems to already have some decent traffic and will attract people off of searches then.

Edit: my mistake. Seems that this one is more accurate.

http://forums.galbijim.com/index.php?act=idx

There is an F2 section there.

As what CC said, we hope that you guys can migrate from that start-up forum to Galbijim. There are a lot of smaller loose-end forums or clubs around, related to different aspects of expat living in Korea and it would be good to consolidate under a common and stable roof.
