I have a question which I'm hoping someone can answer. I've got an employeer in the works who says that he can hire me with just a letter of permission from immigration. I've got a dependents visa. Anyone know if this is true or not?
I've also got another question... can anyone tell me what happens if I can in fact work without change of sojourn, but break the contract? I've got to get continuing education every year to maintain some credentials from the States, and I don't know if I can get the credit on line. If I can't I gotta go back for a few days of study and I don't think he'll let me off.
I want to find out these things before I sign!

For gosh sakes, don't rely on what the Korean hagwon boss tells you! Next thing, he will tell you he has a friend at immigration, and all is OK. That line of bull has been thrown far and wide here, and a great many of us have heard it all before. It is always -- I repeat -- always bull.
It's on you to go to immigration yourself (or call) and ask them and only them what you can do with your visa situation. And here is where the fun starts: Sometimes they say two different things, depending on who you talk to there! They are the law, however, so you have to ask them and only them.
You can also set up 6 month contracts if you have an employer that will do it. Sure, post on EFL-Law. It is a good site, as well. But you need to go to immigration. |

I have been able to get my continuting education credits through KOTESOL events. There is no way you should have to go back home! |

| My credentials have nothing to do with education training certification unfortunately. I worked in the environmental field back home! |

| Oh, well, then, that wouldn't work. But I know when I was going for my EE teaching certificate (I know, still not quite the same thing!) there were lots of free online courses I could use towards the certificate. |
