It's true that he had already begun the transformation and it's also true that he could do those things but I guess I always pictured something kind of like what they showed: a guy in kind of wacked out suit. I never pictured him as a hulk or someone of immense stature. I remember reading the books, and it's been years now so I'm not going to press the point, and I thought that he was still pretty much human in shape and appearance and that he only SAID that he was no longer human at the end of the book. He recognized the change even though his sister thought that he could perhaps slough off the sandworm larvae and regain his humanity.
Anyway, the movie depicted it how I pictured it: a guy not yet deformed by his sacrifice but knowing that he will become something entirely apart from humanity and doing it for the good of the future. |
