Do you know if any of the games will be shown (replayed) at the Rocky Mountain Tavern? I believe they showed some games last year.

Listened to the Canada-Finland game over the internet tonight.

I'm fortunate to be back in Canada for the WJHC this year.

Once again it will be Canada v.s Russia in the gold medal game.

The Russians look really dominant right now. They easily beat the US last night. They are odds on favorite to beat Canada as well. Should be a great game regardless.

The only way Canada is going to beat the Russkies is if they can intimidate them and after what I saw them do against the US I don't think this Russian team minds mixing it up. There were some amazing hits last night in that US game. But Canada seems to know how to use the hitting game to their advantage and their goaltender is on fire right now. And never underestimate Sutter, he's never lost a junior game.
3-2 Canada in what should be 1 of the best hockey games played anywhere this year-Olympics included because these kids put it all on the line every shift. I'm in Vancouver and the lowest priced tix I can find are $2000 for a pair on ebay. I can drink a lot of beer right next door to GM Place at the Shark Club for that so that's where I'll probably be watching the game.

5-0!!!

Who knew! Serves them right for that Malkinin kid saying Russia would win "easily"

I wonder if the Poggee will pan out for the Leafs... seems to me a good number of goalies that do well in the Junior tourny don't amount to much (Luongo being the obvious exception) ... maybe not actually a "good number", but I always think of Cory Hirsch doing really well for the Juniors, and God only knows where he is now.

On to the Olympics!! Go Canada Go!

It's a bits scary this time though. Sure, USA will be useless, but Russia and the Czechs look like they will be pretty strong.

If only Sweden had a goalie (we'll see about Lundqist) they could rely on.

Man I was I was at GM place for that one. Must have been quite the party in Vancouver.

I was shocked by the outcome as well. Listening to the game it sounded like the Russians were a little undisciplined and spent too much time in the penalty box.

Don't forget they also have Rask from Finland.

The Americans did not do as well as expected in this tourney. What do the people on this board who actually played the game have to say about this sort of semi-annual fact?

Is Kessel all he's cracked up to be and are the Johnsons as good as the scouts say?

I watched the game on TV. The way I saw it, Canada was badly outplayed for the first 10-12 minutes with the Russians outshooting them about 15-3. But Poggee kept them in the game with some huge saves. That seemed to cause the Russians to start runnng around even more and Canada took advantage, I'd say 3 of Canada's 5 goals should have been stopped. Also, it didn't help that Canada was scored on but it was in and out so fast that no one saw it. While that's too bad for Russia, I think they should have asked for a replay which was their right but they didn't. I'll bet if that situation were reversed, Sutter would have stopped play and demanded a review. When it finally came out-it was too late as play had resumed -too bad but those are the rules.
From the 2nd period on, you could see the Russians were getting really frustrated with all the big hits from Canada and when they retaliated, they got penalties. The 3rd period was just going through the motions-the Russians were going to lose and they knew it.
While Canada showed some good talent, I think Sutter was the main difference-that guy told them what they had to do and to the credit of the whole team, they bought into it and executed. And Poggee was outstanding.
I thought the game would be a lot closer but I'm glad it wasn't. That tournament really demonstrated that Canada is still the #1 power in hockey and that the US still hasn't got it figured out.

6 of my friends had tournament passes and saw every game in Vancouver-not only Canadian games, but all the games of Pool A. I talked to them 3 times throughout the tournament (I should have been there!)and this is what they said...The Americans are more talented than either the Canadians or Russians INDIVIDUALLY, but have no chemistry or cohesiveness at all. They were amazed at how they didn't pass to eachother and rarely ever got some flow going. They said the American games were almost as fun as the Canadian ones, as virtually the whole arena was cheering against the States.
Apparently Kessel has some attitude problems/personality conflicts with just about everybody he plays with (tsn/hfboards.com), even parents from what I hear. Jack Johnson was apparently hammering everything that moved, and E. Johnson is apparently deserving of the hype as well. However, based on Towes' history of championships (Midget AAA, U 17's) and the tournament he had, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him go #1.
