Metsuke, a million thanks. Fabulus. And, yes, the "Guide us" button seems to help limit the number of songs you don't want to listen to.
This is especially because I'm hearing all kinds of songs/groups/musicians I've never even heard of.
Beautiful.
God, please don't let it go to corporate rot heaven later....
Made a Doobie Brothers station and heard Doobies, Hollies and Boston on the first three songs.
Sweet. |

I had a musical OracleofBacon moment and decided to make a station based on The Red Elvises, absolutely certain nothing would happen and I'd blow up the program, the computer and myself. But, nooooooo, there they were! I'm now listening to Wind Up Bird by Pink Grease as a result. Some of the wonderful lyrics from the song are such standards as "...my cat is dead..." and "...you are the wind-up..."
For the record, Red Elvises is probably the best live band I've ever seen. (Keep in mind I like off-beat stuff.) The selections started with "Party Like a Rock Star," one of their more pedestrian efforts.
Korea link: One of the guys had a SMOKIN' Russian-Korean wife who was the model for the cover of their CD, "Better Than Sex."
I'm now listening to Elvis' "Memoirs Of A Phuket Geisha" which began with the memorable line, "I'm a middle-aged hooker..." and includes "...my life is a taxi..." "...'cuase my boyfriend from Norway don't send money no more."
But, seriously, they're good fun. Their great early songs include:
Red Lips, Red Eyes, Red Stockings
Telephone Call from Instanbul
Gypsy Heart
200 Flying Girls
Lovepipe
Closet Disco Dancer
Stewardess in Red
Sad Cowboy Song
Rocket Man
I Wanna See You Bellydance
Joint Was Jumping
All I Wanna Do (Is Make Love to You)
Please Don't Tell Me What I Did Last Night
Famous (sort of) for doing the soundtrack to Six String Samurai. |

| Site kicks a$$. Found some good Bad Brains. Anyone know a good, free, 'record any program' program? I have just switched to a PC. |

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! This site is amazing beyond description....I'm telling everyone I know about it and the response is a unanimous: OH MY GOD!!!!! Really diggin' my Kraftwerk station right now!!! Check it out...
As for people sayin' this is another scheme by record companies......SO WHAT!!!!!!!!! I'm discovering all these new artists, they get kudos, you get a link to buy their stuff (and not a download)...it's every musician's wet dream come true....If you don't dig this site....you ain't a lover of music!!!!!! |

This thread needs a bump before some corporate catastrophy destroys this miracle, but also a word on usage:
It seems that creating stations based on songs works better than stations based on artists/groups. I assume it is because most artists groups avoid being pigeonholed and create a variety of song styles... but individual songs are distinctive.
Would love some user feedback on this point. |

The honeymoon over yet? Sure, it's amusing for a day or two, but the bloody thing plays the same songs again and again. And again.

Furthermore, unless I'm mistaken every song Pandora plays has been released as a commercial single (or b-side). So what it offers, essentially, is an Internet radio station, albeit a significantly diverse one.
Seriously, listening to Pandora for an extended period of time reminds me of driving in a car and having to listen to the same songs over and over again, because there are no other tapes or CDs in your glove compartment.

Deng! I'm not sure Angus MacLise or The Orb released singles... (or B sides : )
Why the hate-on for this thing, Sparkles? |

I don't hate it, I just don't think it deserves as much hype as it's been receiving, both here and elsewhere.
My main musical preference is hip-hop, and the thing sucks at it. It's never heard of seminal hip-hop artists such as Lord Finesse, The Artifacts, and others; and IT PLAYS THE SAME SONGS OVER AND OVER!
Just last Sunday I created a radiohead station, and the second song it played was by Third Eye Blind. Ugh. Of course, I tell the thing that I don't want to hear music like that, and what happens? It plays Good Charlotte.
Again, I don't hate it. It very rarely will play a song I haven't heard in a long while. But most of the time I find myself skipping through songs until the "we're sorry, our musical licenses limit the number of songs you can blah blah blah" pops up.

You shouldn't have to buy music in this day and age anyway dude.
download (steal) all your favorite goodies from Limewire!.
And who the hell is Robert Pollard? I asked for David Bowie and sure enough it played one Bowie song that I've never heard before, but the next song was this Pollard fella.
good site nontheless. |
