Ok....I have my laptop and desktop networked. I can read files from my laptop on my desktop. However, I cannot read files from the laptop to the desktop. When I try, it says access denied on the laptop. But, on the desktop, it works fine.
Question: what do i have to do to the desktop so that the laptop can read from it? Thanks.
P.S. The desktop can read from the laptop just fine. I can now use the printer connected to the laptop. |

Does one of them run on XP Home? That would be your problem since only XP Pro gives you the advanced network options of being able to control and appropriate network shares the way you would probably like to. I would recommend doing some reading on the Microsoft Knowledgebase. This was also discussed about a month ago if you can manage to find the thread about it. The easiest way to get it working would be to go with Pro. Though there may be some make-shift solutions, you will never be able to run a true network with full access to all systems and files when it is running through an XP Home machine.
I found the old thread. I wonder if tweeterdum was able to find a solution with his XP Home setup. Find it here |
