| This may seem like an insignificant issue to some. I am in Thailand (Tieland) right now where appearance is much more important than experience or anything else. Here in Thailand, almost all teaching jobs require male teachers to wear a tie. Are male teachers required to wear a tie in Korea? |

Some places, yeah, but for most places I would say no. A collared shirt however is usually required.
At my University, we have to wear dress pants and a collared shirt. Once or twice a week I kick out a suit (got 4 of them), but that's just for me, baby. |

Usually not. If you work in a public school or uni, just a blazer is usually fine. I only wear a tie on certain days or when photos are being taken. Some adult academies and business schools require employees to wear ties, and a few schools have strict dress codes, but that's it.
No one at a hogwan wears a tie. |

I do, but perhaps I am the only one, none of the other teachers wear ties at my hogwan. Though, like Sooke said, 'It's just for me, baby.' |

Be careful, they might think you're acting too much like a real teacher. |

Not sure how the two are connected as wearing a tie has nothing to do with being a real teacher....the best way to act like a real teacher is to actually teach... |

The last school I worked at had a very relaxed dress-code - jeans and t-shirt. However they were the exception. Other schools I've worked at and had interviews with usually require pants and a shirt.

Of course you are required to wear a tie. Shirt, pants, and underwear are optional however.
