Hey all,

I need some help regarding where to go for my first wedding anniversary. What is a good place to take the Mrs. for dinner in Seoul? I'm not talking about Outback, Friday's etc. but a nice place that can either be Korean or western food. Any advice is appreciated.

What is your budget?

THe Four Seasons (French food) at the Hilton is the best in town - but pricey.

Last year...took my wife to a spa resort for our anniversary...she loved it.

The year before...we went to Banf in Canada (we were visiting some friends in Vancouver) and I booked a weekend there as a surprise).

Other years, I took her to a fancy restaurant or to a weekend get away somewhere near Busan.

It will really depend on your budget and what she likes.

This year, we will go to Kyoto Japan and then visit my brother in Tokyo as my mother-in-law offered to babysit out son for a week (he will be 18 months by then).

There's a thread over in the "General Discussion" forum called "Romantic Restaurants?"

Please take a look. Contributions greatly appreciated.

Homer,

I was also thinking of a spa as an idea as well. Which did you go to?

The spa at Jeju Lotte Hotel is really nice with a pool and all the perks of one of the best resort hotels in many countries. The pool is like a water park, the rooms are very nice, the restaurants are very good for the somewhat expensive price and the casino is there too if you like that (must have foreign passport or ID). It is somewhat pricy though, but it is not much more than any other spa or resort hotel in Korea.

If you are staying in Seoul, there is a great blow fish place (I think best in Seoul) one major block south from Samsung station, the station for COEX, and the restaurant is called , or Deungdae, but you will drop a C note there to pay for it. The novelty of having eaten blowfish is cool, in itself. Order the cheap 40k won blowfish soup, as it comes with much more else. It is diagonally across the intersection from the Porsche dealership. There is also an Italian place near by there which is good on ambience but not bad on the price. It is one city block west of said Porche dealership (at Daechi Sa-guri, or Daechi 4-way intersection) and a little way down south from that intersection in the direction of Eumma Apartment complex, across the street from the LG gas station (tell taxi driver to go to "Daechi Saguri" and point him south until gas station). The building is a distinctively dark wood exterior with a huge picture window. I don't remember the name. It's got great wines, if you like that, but also be prepared to pay for the liquor. The food is great and the ambience is great (real Italian food).

If you want jazz music, go south from the Galleria department store in Apgujung (where they are now doing a bunch of construction for a new subway station) half way down the city block and to the left you will see in blue lettering, Blue Moon. Ok food, but the jazz is great. There is this really old Korean dude there wearing a zoot suit and fedora that plays killer sax though. Does really great jazz flute solo too, if you can imagine that sound.

All three places were winners with my wife, my main squeeze (actually I liked the jazz more than she did, but she liked the newness of the atmosphere from the regular Korean restaurant fare, and the cool crowd there). All three places, be prepared to drop a hundred dollars, though, but you said "nice." The resort at Jeju is by far the best I've been to anywhere, including some swank places in the States.
