I just bang away on my computer & ashes fall in the keyboard & cat fur fouls up the fans & other stuff inside I'm sure. I've been cruising the net for a while without active virus protection because my norton expired & avast frustrated me.

My unit started to wheeze & occasionally required a good physical thump to the tower to get it operational again (gives new meaning to booting up!) but it finally siezed up & died altogether yesterday.

So I lugged it over to the neighborhood fix-it shop & asked them to make it go. They took a look at it & said they had to wipe it clean & start over, did I have any backups?

Nope. I'm stupid that way but also a big fan of tabula rasa.

I picked it up a couple hours later & plugged it in & they've got me set up with english windows xp again & its purring like a kitten. $20.

Thats pretty cheap. I'll probably drive it into the ground & visit them a year again from now.

Why did Avast frustrate you? I find it to be pretty good for a free program, especially considering how it manages to snuff out trojan horses that other free AVPs don't.

Oh, ask your students which anti-virus program they use when you get the chance. Trust me, the answers will be shocking.

I was happy with avast until they asked me to register which I did at which point I seemed to lose current ongoing protection. My refurbished machine has an active Korean anti-virus program on it now. Likely good enough for my purposes.

Don't they use nothing? Or, sometimes, Ahn's? What answer did you get? Just curious. Almost all computers at the school I work at don't work because viruses have crippled them, except for the two that I managed to fix.

That's it! Most don't use anything. Pretty bizarre really, considering how virus-friendly Korea is.
