I did this one at Halloween and it went over quite well. I think it sort of covers the bases you're looking for.

1.
It was a dark and stormy night. As Minji walked home from school she started to feel very afraid.
2.
A strange woman was waiting behind Woori Pizza. She leaped out, grabbed Minji, and started yelling her.
3.
She was horribly ugly. She had a red, scarred face and was holding a big, sharp knife.
4.
Hello, Minji, she said, laughing very loudly. I am the Red Menace. I am visiting __________________ tonight. Do you think Im pretty?
5.
Minji wanted to run away, but the Red Menace shrieked I can run 100 meters in 10 seconds, so dont even think of trying to run away! Ah ha ha ha!!!!
6.
Minji didnt know what to say, so she lied. I think you are very pretty, she said, terrified.
7.
The Red Menace said you are lying, little girl! I kill pretty girls who lie to me! Do you want to die?!!!
8.
Minji screamed Help!!!!! Then she woke up. She looked around. It was all just a nightmare.

Yu_Bum_Suk,

Interesting story, but what are the students supposed to do with it? Is there a question they're supposed to answer from the reading?

Regarding the story Kathy shared about the son taken to the hospital and the doctor being his mother - I told the story to my two middle school classes today. In the first class, immediately as I asked "Who is the doctor?", a girl said, "Uh.. her mother? ..." In the next class, someone answered after a few guesses.

Then I told the story to my two female co-workers, and neither of them could guess the answer.

Cool
