So I just signed up for a DPRK North Korea tour for later this year.
Here is some current information for others considering booking:
For a number of years the Beijing-based "Koryo Tours" company (www.koryogroup.com) seemed to be the only reliable tour operator into the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
This company has built quite an enterprise out of off selling package tours to the DPRK at hugely inflated prices to fill their own coffers. Their cheapest advertised tour price for 4 nights is currently 990 Euros (nearly 1.2 million South Korean won).
However, a Swedish based company (KoreaKonsult) is offering almost identical 5 night trips to the DPRK (throughout 2006) for as low as 530 Euros (630,000 won) for groups.

That is nearly a 600,000 won price difference between Koryo Tours and KoreaKonsult for basically the same tour.
The DPRK embassy is located in Beijing, so all tours generally start in China, although KoreaKonsult seems to also be advertising possible departure routings from Vladivostok and Khabarovsk.
US and ROK passport holders still seem to be banned from the regular itinerary.
However it appears that US passport holders are again (regrettably) being let in to the DPRK for the limited duration of the Mass Games (Aug-Oct '06). Prices for US citizens are double what everyone else will pay, starting at 2.6 million won (2190 Euros) each.
In summary, do check with both companies before booking. |

| It's regrettable that US citizens have a chance to go to the DPRK for a sporting event? What do you base that on? Hatred for Americans? That is (regrettably) pathetic. |

I think the few US passport holders who get through, should be grateful to the DPRK leadership for the opportunity to visit at all.
The issuance of a visa, is a courtesy of the government.
The USA makes it very difficult for people from developing countries to enter its borders and get visas. Similarly the DPRK (and other developing countries) deal with American visa requests in the same way.
That aside from the obvious - that the US leadership barely recognises the legitmacy of the DPRK's right to even EXIST as a republic. |
