Has anybody heard of a school called wonder land?

I've been offered a job for March and I think I've heard some bad stories about them, also my recruiter (gmsc - anyone heard of them?) said their teaching style was very different. "You go into one room and all you have to alk about is thing srelated to Doctors, then in the next room you have to liek a Policeman - it's very difficult but can be fun and challenging, waht do you think?"

I told him I'd like him to forward the details so that I may research the shcool myself, this is what he sent me - what a joke I think:

Wonderland has a pretty bad reputation. It is a chain, and maybe some of the branches are different, but overall it is not very reputable. Also, that is not a lot of money. 2 million is pretty standard. And if you are working anytime after 2, you will also be teaching elementary in addition to kindergarten. I would see if you get anything better. Be sure to ask any recruiter/employer about vacation days, tax (it should be around 3 percent), and bonus (one month extra pay at the end of your contract.)

I teach at a Wonderland and in fact the Director is the Chairman of Wonderland schools.

I don't relate to what your recruiter was saying about talking like a policeman in one room and a fire fighter in another, but there are different themed rooms. Basically the rooms are decorated according to a theme. The kindergarten classes have books that they work through on Thursdays and the theme of the book is related to the room, but that is the extent of it.

I can talk about it in a private message if you'd like further information regarding my experiences.

From what I've heard, Wonderland has one of the worst reputations in Korea. They're on just about every black list I've seen. I would stay far, far away from a Wonderland school. It's not worth it to go through hell for a year.

That being said, not every school within a chain is going to be the same. Perhaps there are good Wonderland schools out there. But I wouldn't take a chance. Their reputation is just too bad.

There's actually a website put together by former teachers called "Prisoner of Wonderland." You should check it out: http://www.geocities.com/prisonerofwonderland/

Yes, one school out of a hundred or so is terrible, well, actually 2 if you count the one in Geoje-do. Maybe more, maybe not. But not all are terrible. I work at Jeju Wonderland and it is wonderful. I am only leaving it because I am growing a bit tired of Jeju and need a bigger city. If it weren't for that, I would definitely stay for a 3rd year!

You can PM me if you want to talk about it.

Actually it's more like one or maybe two I've actually heard good reports about. I've spoken in person to at least three Wonderland employees (from three different ones) and read numerous accounts, all of which paint this organisation as one to avoid at all costs. If the odd good Wonderland doesn't like it they should get after the head office about establishing some quality control and respect for teachers.

Enjoy getting dong-chimed by seven-year-olds.

There's no point in asking us. Just look at the hours: 11 - 7.
Most likely you'll be teaching 6 to 8 classes a day on top of
putting in prep time - too heavy a workload to get a professional
job done notwithstanding the salary, which in your case is low and
the average salary back in 2000. Wonderland, like most Korean
hogwans is a white-slave labour camp. You'd be better off teaching
at a franchise school in Japan or Taiwan for more money and fewer
teaching hours: about 5 a day. The school's shuttle bus carries the
slogan "Everyone smiles in Wonderland.' But there's a hidden premise
that could add "except the foreign teacher." Cool

Why are you doing that? Why are you scaring her away from the job? What if she ends up liking it you big putz? Let her decide for herself she's not a child. Just because others had a bad experience doesn't mean she can't take care of herself. Damn Christ they are paying her accomodations and airfare if she doesn't like it come up with a letter of release pay them back their airfare and go onto something else. She might enjoy it how do you know?

I hate when people flame and keep flaming and flaming. I hope you open a business one day and someone does that to you, idiot.

You ignorant fool.

Maybe I am, I know one thing I will find out where you work! Your boss will be reading your posts or will have knowledge of your flaming towards other teachers in cyberspace.

If you ever wonder why you got fired before your contract was up, you should maybe think a little deeper rather than hearing the same old "it's the parents" no buddy it's you.

Why don't you save the hassle since I can find out anyway, and tell me where you work? See what happens in the next few weeks. I'm sure lurkers and posters here would love to bury you.
