I did a few years ago.

Back in 2001 I was making 2.8 but bonuses for editing/teacher training/textbook development regularly pushed it well past the 3.0 mark.

Now my salary comes in the form of Canuck-bucks.

will finish my ninth year in May

My salary varies depending on how much O/T or side-jobs I accept (all side jobs are provided by the school)

My base is 2.54 but the most I ever made in one month was 5.3 with an average, when not on vacation of around 3.0 -3.2

0-24 hours, sometimes do extra tutoring / editing for free.
Public school.
Renovated 2-bedroom-plus-study furnished house with TV, computer, microwave, vacuum cleaner, washer, fridge and gas range provided.
Small town close to Daegu.
One year, two months.

Expect some tall tales and big fish stories on this thread.

Year one 1.8 mil for 30 hours a week 3-9 Mon-Fri(there was a half day Sat but they got rid of that 4 or 5 months in) Made an additional 450,000 a month teaching privates.

Year two 2 mil for what was supposed to be 30 hours a week 2-8, turned into 2-10 and I insisted on a raise up to 2.15(made an additional 200,000 a month teaching privates)

Year three base salary was 2.3 with overtime made approx 2.6 9-5 Mon-Fri, public school. Didnt have significant private lessons that year.

Of all the jobs the public school ended up being the best.(rough start but after the first couple months it was smooth sailing)

I make more than 6million without counting bonus (my bonus can range froma months salary to 6months salary). But I also work about 55 hours a week, then I have to spend just about every night drinking whiskey with clients and pretending I enjoy room salons. I get to work at 7:30am I get home at about 11pm which is much much more strenuous than my old job in the states. I dont get a housing allowance but I paid key money and so I dont really have any monthly costs associated with housing.

I have actually been looking at maybe teaching english (adults in the finance industry that I already know and their associates), since although my pay would go down dramatically, I think my lifestyle would improve substantially.

BTW - I am not a big drinker, and my doctor has warned me that my liver is in really bad shape.

I am sure the public school did end up being the "best" for you. Bet it was easy as snapping a picture.

How many teaching hours a week?

Twenty 45 min classes (16 hours) plus 3-5 overtime classes which I'm paid for. For some reason my school paid me 800,000 for my overtime which I still can't figure out. Should've been half that I thought. I'm not complaining obviously.

Where - Hagwon, Uni, public school?

The latter, middle school.

What kind of housing?

Officetel.

What city?

Seoul.

How long have you been teaching/living in Korea?

5 months.
