What Makes Korea a Four-Eyed Nation?
Experts identify the main culprit as genetic predisposition.
prone to potentially eyesight-damaging activities like reading, watching TV, using the computer
Inappropriate posture and dim light are also problems.

Dim light? I don't buy that for a second. The lights I have encountered everywhere are like artificial suns. I actually sprained my eyelid from squinting all the time to give my retinas a break. I didn't even think it was possible to sprain an eyelid, but yes you can, and yes it stings like a MFer. |

I have heard the statement that being born in a hospital is bad for your eyes, because a baby born in a hospital is immediately exposed to bright lights. A baby born naturally, on the other hand, is born in a dimly-lit room.
One could compare the four-eyed ratios of hospital-born countries with natural-born countries. However, one could contend that the people of the hospital-born countries receive glasses through better medical care. |

I wonder if the standard at which eyes are considered in need of glasses is not rather high here. I don't know exactly how it's rated, but maybe in Korea 90% is considered to need glasses, but back home, maybe it's more like 80% or something like that. |

Huh. I was told Kimchi cures everything, including eye problems.
Is it true? |

Actually, flourescent lighting is really bad for your eyes. That's why you don't see them as often back home. Why do they use them here? Saves money and electricity. They did a study on it a few years ago now though. Incandescent lighting is much better for your eyes and eyesight. I forget why though. |
