Dear All,
While this English Village initiative by the GECF is ambitious and new, I would be very careful to check the contract to ensure you know exactly what you are getting into.
I was recruited to be a teacher trainer, spent quite a bit of time preparing my job application only to find out there were additional teaching and other duties that were not advertised nor explicitly stated in the contract.
Upon looking over the contract, I asked that the contract be changed to reflect the job title and duties I initially applied for, but the GECF folks were very reluctant to do so. They eventually wrote in the job title, but left out the precise duties to be done.
I was under the impression I would be training Korean high school teachers as advertised (see the job posting here: http://www.eslcafe.com/jobs/korea/index.cgi?read=16450), but was later informed my job duties included teaching 8th graders and the Republic of Korea Army! I was also informed that there would be other duties to do as things went along, and that it was expected that I be "flexible". Who knows what that may mean as things go along?
So, I wanted to share my experience with you to be aware of this contractual issue, and try as best you can to get the GECF to be more explicit in what the expectations are and have them commit to them in the contract.
It would be to your credit to ask about these issues long before you put pen to paper and sign. Know in advance what your job title and duties will be. Protect yourself!
Best of luck. |

Be careful I spoke to a lady there once through e-mails and she sounds like a nut case. I would be careful. |
