In need a new socket 939 board, but I'm not really pressed to buy one right now (I've got a backup computer right now).
A question to the experts. What is the forecast in the short-run? Should I hold off my purchase if there is something new and great expected?
Second question: Less then a year ASUS motherboard that seems dead. No beep when started. No bios. No signal to monitor. I'm sure it should be covered under the warranty and replaced by the store where I purchased it with minimal costs, but the problem is I live in Seoul and I bought it in Gwangju. Could any computer store in Yongsang help me with the replacement under warranty?
Thanks |

AMD will be releasing AM2 Socket I believe in the start of Q2. I think AMD boards will be quite good for quite sometime. Intel will be releasing Conroe in Q2 as well p4 is a dead end. There is no real point in waiting any more I doubt that even new AMD and Intel architectures will deliver more then 10% real world benefits. I say buy the cheapest you can that way you loose less cash. Computers are a horrible investment.
When I worked with Asus boards I remember them always having a 3 year warranty. My supplier covered 1 year and 2 year from manufacturer. Its not hard to do the RMA your self just get in contact with Asus their support was pretty good. It will cost you one way to ship then they will pay shiping the other way. It will cost you minimum of 30K won if you do it your self. I remember back home people use to handle other stores RMA's but they charged at least 35 dollars to do it.
If I were you get an Asrock upgrade mobo. They are cheap and you can later on put a special add in card that will give you AM2 socket capabilities for cheap (less then 50 dollars). Asrock K8 Upgrade mobos are great. Btw Asrock is the No-Name brand Asus stuff. They don't have any huge bells and whistles on them but they are solid and ofcourse they have Asus RMA percentage which is the lowest amongst all mobo manufacturers. Asrock only has 1 year warranty as well.

GL on your descision

You'll have to take it to the Asus repair centre yourself if you want it fixed for free. To get to it, you have to go across the parking lot outside of the old Yongsan shopping mall and then across the road, down the right a block and a half, then a left at a side-street till you hit an alley where you walk right for a couple minutes. Eventually you'll find their place where they are on the second floor of an old building.
Once in there, the reception girl will make you take a number before she can talk to you even if you are the only person there.
I say this in all seriousness.
I was there in November. They fixed a motherboard while I waited. |
