day trip to the north? what are you smoking, boy? The only tours up there are highly controlled, very expensive and leave from China, and they don't let individual tourists in without always being accompanied by a guide

Wrong!! They were offering day trips to the north in September to a mountain area from the south. Also, they are 3 day trips on the Korea tourism website. Here's the website, but it looks outdated. You may want to try contacting tourist info. From a landline, just dial 1330.

Approximately 1.5 mil foreigners in Korea.... (from all countries)

Approximately 6000 of these foreigners are ESL Instructors (English teachers)

......and please Faron... take a trip to the north... I have just been reading your previous posts and I want to try to keep you away from the kiddie afternoon sports programs.....

FWIW, A 3 day cruise down the east coast to Mt. Kumgang and back is hardly a day trip.

No, but they were for sure having day trips in September. It might only be a fall thing and the trip was to a mountain area...you know Koreans and their fall hiking.

I have no idea how many of us there are but I do know that if you go to the North and Uncle Sam finds out you lose your tax benefits! That means that if you're an American, you get taxed the same as if you were in the States! #@!& that!!!

Are you telling me that if you go for a little visit to the North and you work in Korea for 10 years you're going to be taxed back home for all those earnings? That's strange, if true.

I agree. Something's not right about that claim.

bull, if you go to the north and use your us credit card and the govt finds out you will pay a fine but lose your foreign income exclusion???? wtf are you smoking? thats the biggest bunch of misinformation since the wmd claim.

BTW the north WANTS US tourists to come for the Arirang festival from Aug to October. They announced they are lengthening the period of time americans can stay from 4 days to a week, that was in the Korea Herald last week. If I have the cash in Aug, I may look into that
