Anyone else having trouble with MSN after upgrading?

When I signed in today, I got the message that an upgrade was available, so I downloaded it. Now, whenever I try to log in, I get an error message saying I can't log in, with the error code 80048883. I upgraded from 7.5.0311 to 7.5.0322.

All I could find on Google was this:

We are trying to collect additional info from users receiving the 80048883 error code when they try to sign in. If you are using MSN Messenger 7.5 or Windows Live Messenger 8.0 and you get this error please send an email to [email protected]. Well help you sign in, and you'll be helping us make Messenger Better.

I've sent of an e-mail, but no reply as of yet (okay, it's only been a couple of hours, but I've got a video chat scheduled for tomorrow morning and really want to get this sorted ASAP!)

Any help greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

For anyone else having this problem, you can refer to this 'simple fix' that Microsoft has provided me with:

Quote:

If you are encountering the error 80048883 , please try the following:

1. If you are using Messenger v 7.5 please downlaod the latest version from http://messenger.msn.com. At the end pf the installation, restart your computer. If you are using Windows Live Messenger, please proceed to next step.

2. After downloading, goto http://messenger.msn.com/help/issues.aspx and please follow the steps below the section "Cannot sign into Messenger when you have a firewall running on your computer"

3.Note: If your firewall already has instances of MSN Messenger in its Application Allow list, please remove it and then re-add Messenger. The stepa are avaialble in the link mentioned in Step 2.

4. If you are using Windows OneCare firewall, please ensure Messenger is allowed full automatic access to the Internet.

5.Restart the computer and sign into Messenger again and verify. If you are able to sign in , proceed to Step 11 and if not proceed to next step.

6. Create a new folder called DataGather in C:\

7. Download and extract the contents of the attached zip file to the folder C:\DataGather

8. Exit out of Messneger if you have the Messneger buddy in your system tray (besides the system date and time on the right corner of your screen.

9. Open the C:\DataGather folder and double click on the file ppcrl

10. This will create a file PPCRLLog.txt in the folder C:\DataGather

11. Click on Start and Run and type CMD and hit Enter

12. In the command prompt window type in CD\DataGather and hit Enter.

13. At the C:\DataGather prompt type in tasklist /v > ProcessList.txt (Note there is a space between /v and > and ProcessList.txt and no space between / and "v") and hit Enter.

14. Sign into Messenger again and verify.

15. If the issue still occurs, double click on the file AddIDCRL. Click on OK in the popup window to add the registry entries.

16. Sign into Messenger again.

17. A log file will be created in the "My Documents" folder

18. Double click on RemoveIDCRL to remove the registry entries and stop logging.

19. If you are experiencing sign in problems still, please send us the MSIDCRLTrace.txt from the "My Documents" folder and the PPCRLLog.txt file and the ProcessList.txt file from the C:\DataGather folder.

20. If you were able to sucessfully sign in ,please send us the PPCRLLog.txt and the ProcessList.txt file from the C:\DataGather folder.

We thank you for your patience as we try to resolve this issue.
We would like to get your feedback as to what other steps may have resolved your isse.

Thank you.

If you need the DataGather file, send me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send it along.

As for myself, luckily I still the install program for the previous version (7.5.0311) on my computer, so I've reverted back to it. I'll see if I can get the new version working when I have a free afternoon. Rolling Eyes Or perhaps I'll wait for the next upgrade and hope that MSN has fixed this problem. (yeah....right Rolling Eyes )
