hiya.been browsing this fine site for a few weeks now and have just joined so i thought i'd introduce myself.Your advice and discussions have helped me enourmously in deciding whether or not to try a year teaching in korea. Since i have gone against the advice of a few,i starting getting my qualifications soon.Online tefl( just for the peice of paper) and about 6 hours a week teaching practice which will give me an official ( albeit scottish ) group adult learning tutoring certificate ( just for the experience). Up until then i'll probably just keep browsing until i have questions about the all important contracts. Keep up the good work, this has and hopefully will carry on being my most valuable research tool.Even the more sullen posters are in a weird way a help too. cheerio for now. |

You do have a 4 year degree?
Without one all the other qualifications are moot!
With the degree they may help you land a uni position. |

That wasn't the case for me; I have a 3-year Education degree from McGill, and that worked just fine getting jobs in Korea. |

Welcome here! I'm glad you've learned a lot from our knowledge and opinions, but do bear in mind that sometimes what we write are only our opinions.
You're in a difficult position - you have to be patient and you have to be ready to jump if a golden opportunity comes along. Good luck with it, and remember that no matter what you do, applying from abroad you're entering a crap shoot. Just do what you can to get the dice loaded in your favour and come over with the best attitude you can.
Good luck! |

I too have a 3 year degree (B.A) but from Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I could have got an honours degree if I had gone a fourth year, but I didn't (although I regret it now) and simply have a regular B.A.
So yeah even though in the 9 years I've been here I've always heard about the "4 year degree" rule it's never been a problem for me and I've taught at virtually every level. |

hey
in new zealand and australia 3 year ba's are common, the 4th year is for honours level.. i think it is mostly north america and asia that have 4 year degrees
what really matters is that you have an authentic piece of goatskin (or whatever) that has your name on it! |
