Are they going to give EU citizens an E2 visa? Or would this be on a different visa? What about Eastern Europeans? The Russians would jump at this if they could get such a job.

I'd like to think that everybody yammering about the salary of this position has made sure to back up their feelings on this by not buying products using cheap labour from overseas (ie, I hope you're not wearing shoes). The fact is that:
1)English is supposed to be an international language
2)Lots of people speak English very well as a second language
3)A lot of them come from countries that have just joined the EU and are making about half the amount

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the position, note the free housing and airfare. Were it for a teaching position from one of the magical seven countries for that salary then it would be an insult.

I am wondering whether it makes much sense for the recruiter to post this job on this site. I doubt that too many Eastern Europeans are searching job postings on a sit in which they are eligible for .0000001% of the jobs.

Not legally. I've known Estonians, Poles and Russians teaching here.

They just tell the Koreans they're from Quebec.

True story.

Yeah it's a job for Eastern Europeans, certainly not for westerners. Not many of us would accept such a position. It might be a good deal for someone coming from Hungary, Poland, Estonia, Romania etc...but I've a sneaky feeling that it might go the way Grotto suggested in that they'll get treated like crap and forced to cover other duties not stipulated in the contract and with very little legal recourse to back them up.
And anyway, why would anyone consider coming to spend six months or a year in Korea for a working holiday??? Confused We're here for the money people and let's not forget it Laughing

You wouldn't be knocking a job like this if you were unemployed in Eastern Europe. Even on 1.2 million you could save quite a lot of money with a free apartment. I worked with Polish people back home who after taxes would definitely be making less than that if you factor in cost of living, housing... You're just being snobby pricks. Plus some of them have better grammar than some of the posts on this board by English teachers.

Nahh, just being realistic. After seeing how Koreans treat native English speakers with degrees its not a stretch to figure out how they will treat people without those massive qualifications Rolling Eyes Laughing

While the money might be alright for an Eastern European.....I just dont see them leading happy lives once they arrive!

Well at least the job for Eastern Europeans at English village in Paju city, Kyeonggi do, Korea will open up some new dating posibilities. If you are not into Koreans now you will be able to chase some lonely Eastern European girls and not have to work in Eastern Europe.

I taught for W1.2M for a year.

Of course that was almost 10 years ago when the exchange rate was 550 Won to the dollar (CDN).
