So my new school wants me to change to Woori bank. My last school wanted me to change to KB. I now have a KB account.

I will open a 2nd account (a Woori one) and now my new school is requesting that I give them a photocopy of my account book page from KB as well. Not to make deposits -- just so they can have it.

Why do they need this??? I really don't care to give it to them.

They need the account number. Remember thatthey can't take out your money or do anything to the account.

They don't need it.

Only give them the cover page of the bank account you expect your pay to go into.

Well, I opened the account with Woori, and of course, didn't get an international ATM card. After arguing with the lady on the line, telling her that Korea is still a 3rd world country, and that it will never be the hub of asia, I feel better.

I won't be giving my account information for the KB Bank account to my new school. There is no reason for it.

It is very common - perhaps even usual - for a Korean company to get their staff to open accounts with the company's bank. At the end of the month watch Koreans empty their company-proposed account and shift the cash to their "real" account.

They want your other bank account in order to monitor your money...see if you are planning a runner or whether they can get away with not paying you for a month or so. Wink

Did you ever think how that made her feel, big man?

Do you think the person who answers complaints from people whose Korean isn't good enough to talk with people at their local bank branch might actually agree with you that you should have an international ATM card, but doesn't have the power to change the policy?

I'm glad you feel better, jackoff.

I do feel better.

I hope it pissed her off. I hope she was totally embarrased. I hope she is disappointed in her country, and feels sad to be a part of it.

My hope is that some day, as Korea desperately tries to impress the rest of the world, they will wake up and smell the shit they are shoveling to everyone non-Korean, and realizes that each of us pass information about this odd treatment to our friends, families, and politicians back home. Hopefully, someone will be able to stand up one day in this racist, xenophobic country, and try to make some changes, because they realize that Korea is viewed internationally as a sub-class country full of cheats and liars.

No matter what she felt, Woori bank doesn't seem to have anyone I can speak with who can do anything about the issue, so I could do nothing but let my feelings be known to the individual that they would allow me to speak with. I can only hope that she passes my (and I'm sure the anger of many other foreigners) on to someone else.

If we ignore it and don't complain about it, then it our disapproval will go totally unnoticed. I hope it upset her enough to pass on her feelings to those above her. If Korea wants to be the hub of Asia, they need to get with the program. Enough of this paranoid protectionism.

Please save me the "now she hates foreigners because of you" speech. I really don't care to kiss the ass of every Korean out there just so I don't embarass them or hurt their feelings.

And the local branch woman understood me just fine.

So why are you still here then? Hurry back to the enlightened West where racism and xenophobia would of course never show.

Remember by staying here you support it. Stand up and try to make changes. But don't talk to bank clerks. They don't set policy. Complain to the government.

Actually bigblack,

Urban and Dogbert nailed your little puko-ramma rant to the wall with solid retorts.

There is a gaping hole in your little song and dance about racism here: you do nothing about it or take your frustrations out on people who have no power to change a thing.

You want change or you just prefer whining and playing the victim?

Get off your rear end and act. Write he government official here that has power, organise groups to publish papers or another type of movement.

Fight the good fight bigblack...take down the oppression and most of all apply the same racism to the Koreans that you accuse them of applying to you...that makes perfect sense.

As for your rant to the bank employee, it was classless and small. As Dogbert said, you were in this case a jackoff. She had no power to help you, she was just doing her job and you took it out on her because you were angry...well boo hoo hoo....next time...get transfered to a bank manager or someone in a decision making position and then rant.

Did you ever think that a well worded complaint based on facts and logic as a hell of a better chance of getting results than calling the person an idiot and her country a hole in the ground?
