i will be leaving korea in april... is the date on my alien registration card the date by which i must leave the country? some people are telling me that it's when i can stop working and that i have 5/14/30 days to leave (depending on who i ask), while my boss seems to think that that date means nothing and it's the date on my visa that matters...

I tried calling immigration but they seem to like ot put me on hold for 20minutes then eventualyl hang up on me!
anyone who know the answer to this, please help!

You have 2 choices:
A) Leave Korea by the date indicated on your ARC.
or
B) Go to immigration before the date indicated on your ARC and apply for:
a) an extension to your visa to continue work
b) a change of status of sojourn for the purpose of tourism.

When you go to immigration (a few days before your ARC/Visa expires) you can turn in your ARC and immigration with serve you with a little piece of paper called an exit order that says you MUST leave Korea within 14 days. So time your trip to immigration properly, cause it's 14 days from the day you drop off your card, not from when your visa expires. I've done this TWICE. At the airport, turn in that paper and your done!

they are really strict about that ... i was 2 days past my date and they almost made me miss my flight! ultimately, they didn't fine or detain me to the point of missing the flight, but i'm sure they could have.

Why would you go to Immigration a few days before your visa expired if you weren't applying for an extension?
