The scary thing is that this disease keeps appearing. So do you think it's being passed around to more cows than we know, or than farmers are willing to admit? Or are they illegally feeding them cow remains and making them sick?
Last week, Japan stopped beef imports from the USA because someone shipped beef with the spinal cord attached -- a big no-no. Dumb.

The only reason its being caught so much right now is because of the extensive testing Canada is doing.
With all the animals we are raising for food the odds that one has mad cow disease or bird flu are pretty good.
With all the media coverage and the damage it has done the amount of testing has increased accordingly.
I believe the meat the US shipped to Japan had spinal cord attached that tested positive for mad cow disease....which is why there is such an uproar now. |

And when we stop importing Canadian beef the song will go something like this:
"America doesn't play fair! NAFTA! NAFTA!"
Why does every disease show up in Canada first? |

Yeah right kind of interesting that the border reopened once there was a case of it found in the states
Considering that Canada has much more stringent testing and controls than the USA its no wonder that we catch it before it reaches the consumer.... |

Oh, no one is going to cry NAFTA, and you know it. Stop trolling. By the way, it hasn't always shown up in Canada first. |

Link? There was no mad cow disease in the spinal cords, as far as I have seen. |

Japan halted imports of U.S. beef on Friday, one month after lifting a ban, following the discovery of spinal material in a shipment that it said should have been removed to reduce the risk of mad cow disease.
Indeed there was no mad cow in the spinal material. It was just a violation to have the spinal material present in the meat.
There have been two cases of BSE in the U.S.
In addition, one of the two known cases of mad cow disease in the United States involved a Canadian cow.
"What we have is an ear tag that was recovered from the animal at slaughter and records matching the ear-tag number to a herd in Canada," DeHaven said.

Some Canadian cattle farmers took their arguments to reopen the U.S. border to NAFTA on Wednesday, saying the closure is a trade and investment dispute, not a response to the health threat of mad cow disease.
Indeed I'm just trolling. No one would ever scream "NAFTA!" |

U.S. okay with latest Alberta mad cow discovery
Quote: |
The United States has no plans to stop Canadian cattle imports after a six-year-old cow in Alberta tested positive for mad cow disease.
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns said he does not expect any change in the status of beef or live cattle imports from Canada.
Johanns said in a statement Monday that he's confident about the safety of beef and in the safeguards the U.S. and its trading partners have in place to protect the food supply. |
I knew that the predicted Conservative government would induce a warming of US-Canada Relations but wow that was quick.... |
