We have a new IKEA in town, went looking around there a few weeks ago and although I really like some of the styles I saw, the wood was kinda cheap. Went to Ethan Allen and fell in love with some of their peices...

Been to some, not all of the higher end furniture stores...I guess I'm looking for some direction...I want quality furniture that we can keep for a lifetime. Wife doesn't care what I get, basically it's up to me to be the decorator. I'd like to know what you consider to be top line furniture, I'm not opposed to Copenhagen/denmark/Ikea type styles, I just don't like the particle board wood they use. I'm partial to Maple, Birch or mahoganhy.

Light and airy thread, just need some opinions on your fav furniture and designs, nothing to do with God I hope, please!

IKEA is good at what it does and my wife and I have found it very useful. But no, you wouldn't want to furnish your entire house with it.

Am I cheap? All our stuff is particle board and plastic. Looks good and is comfortable.
I suppose it depends on your plans. I want to leave within the year.
Speaking of which... woohoo! Today is the ninth anniversary of my arrival in Korea!

I don't imagine we'll be shipping our cheap stuff to the US. Maybe some of it as sturdy boxes.

I'm curious about the thread, though. We'll have to purchase and furnish a home in the states soon,
and I know NOTHING about quality furniture.

I had almost a year pre-IMF and remember the free-furniture-pickin's.
Now the online shopping's almost a steal.
But I need to think about my near-future back home.
I'd enjoy any home-buying-furnishing advice you guys have.

Can one cross modern furniture (Le Corbusier Style) with the style posted in the above pictures?

In either situation, I prefer used furniture of some quality (or at least wood!) rather than particleboard-and-laminate anything! Even if it means my arms and legs are speckled with chemical burns from refinishing the pieces myself. Shocked

If you want quality you have to pay for it! Don't cry when a solid wood dinning room set runs $10,000 US. I despise particle board! Our house back home has no particle board anywhere but then we save for a couple of months when we buy every new piece. Check out Bassett furniture or antique shops for fun! If you live in NC you can go to High Point and stock up!!! Solid, solid, solid and quite beautiful.

I had a bedroom suite priced at about 10k. My bed alone from Thomasville cost 2k.
