What is THE most arse-kicking animal in your view? My vote has to go to the Hyena. They eat their prey alive, biting and chewing them to death over several hours, even though they hunt in a large pack. So poor zebra or wilderbeast may have to lie their and watch his genitals be eaten before being defleshed. Also, hyenas don't leave any food. The skeleton of the prey, everything, is eaten. I've also heard that Hyenas, pound for pound, have one of the strongest bites in the animal kingdom, maybe the strongest, thanks to strong jaws.

What animal is just hard as f__k and why? Post pics.

In my university Evolution class, the professor showed us a documentary on hyenas.
I have to agree, they're the toughest.

I'd say the grizzly bear deserves consideration.

I think it depends on the particular environment. In a freezing environment, polar bears are the toughest (according to a National Geographic feature) with penquins running a close second (pound-for-pound, I guess...) In a lake, river or swamp, I'm pretty sure that a crocodile or gator would be the toughest. In the ocean, my guess would be a great white shark (unless one of those killer whales gets fired up...)or those salt-water crocs they've got around Austrailia...

On land (not counting Chuck Norris - or that big Korean K-1 guy...) I would say that lions or tigers are the most aggressive mammals. Elephants are the most powerful probably, but are usually gentle giants. Cobras, funnel web spiders and "killer" bees all are pretty hostile and lethal among reptiles and insects and would be very tough to deal with...And some say that this pest is the most dangerous to humans:

a wolverine has been known to attack a grizzly bear and clamp down on the snout with such force and ironclad grip that the bear simply moans until it dies, unable to disodge the animal.

the "cute" hippo scares away all other mammals and has a vicious bite when provoked. said to be the true king of africa... no other animal messes with them!

There seems to be confusion as to what "toughest " means.

Caused most human deaths? Anopheles mosquito.
Most fearless? Lion. in (cruel) pit fights involving combinations of different animals, the Lion would attack anything facing it without hesitation, no matter the sze difference. The bengal tiger was also noted to be particularly aggressive, although it lost out to Lions about 8 times in 10.

Lions would attack grizzly bears, but the solid heavy swipe of a grizzly never failed to kill a lion. Its fighting style of a deadly swipe caught a lion before it could get in close enough to land a stranglehold on the throat or nose.

The polar bear, while aggressive, lacks the bone density and weight of the grizzly.

Most venomous bite? many spiders are extremely poisonous, but cannot harm humans as their fangs are too small to puncture the skin. As for snakes, i believe the toxicity contest is between the Black mamba and taipan. (not to mention sea snakes).


But...what animal can survive (presumably years) frozen in tundra at minus 40 degrees celsius? the siberian newt.

oh, and the animal that has caused the most damage and danger to other species and the very existence of the planet..is of course, homo sapiens.
