|
|
I am currently working in an after-school program at a public school in Incheon and the company for whom I work for -Daekyo- has proposed the following (for new contracts beginning in March) :
1. the instructor will attend an X number of training sessions by Oxford
Press during their contract. The sessions will be on a Saturday (a non- teaching day). The instructor will be notified at least three weeks in
advance of upcoming sessions. The instructor will not receive any
payment for attending these sessions and proof of attendence will be
required.
** this clause will be added to the current contract conditions. The session times will be included in the working hours ( hence, the reason for non payment for attending such sessions)
** the sticking point -- > the new contract hours will be 1pm to 6pm from
Monday to Friday . Do the math and this will be 25 teaching hours/wk.
A clause in the current contract states working hours will include 120
hours per month. This clause allows for the company to NOT pay for
the triaining sessions. Getting them to change this clause to reflect
ACTUAL teaching hours (25 teaching hrs/wk - 100 hours a month)
will be difficult. The benefit it seems goes to the company and they
know this.
I would like to hear from those of you who have been here a while
regarding this matter. My decision as to whether to sign a new contract
must be made soon. Please note , my decision to renew does not
depend entirely on the above issue. It's just an added twist to consider.
thanks. |

I would point out to them the illogic of having a contract that says mon-fri yet having compulsory meetings on Saturday.
As you only work for them Mon-Fri the weekends are your time to do with as you wish. If they are attempting to make you work Saturdays a definate renegotiation of salary is in order |
