Who's got a pic of Ookla and Ariel?
If we're talking about Satuday morning kid shows, let's not forget Jabberjaw or Plastic Man. |

The only problem I have with your run down memory lane is.... the OP asked about "obscure" TV shows; some of the ones listed here are far from obscure!
| Yaya wrote: |
Bosom Buddies - the TV show that made Tom Hanks famous and left his sidekick, Peter Scolari, in the same class as DJ Jazzy Jeff.
Police Squad- Leslie Nielsen was funny in this one, too bad it didn't last long.
Kimba the White Lion, Thundarr the Barbarian, Blackstar, Laffalympics, HR Pufunstuff - Gosh, these Saturday morning kiddie shows bring back memories.
BJ and the Bear - Greg Evigan starred in his signature role as a tractor trailer driver who helps people in his travels with his pet chimp.
Love, American Style- This show produced the spinoffs Happy Days, which in turn led to the spinoff Laverne and Shirley.
Family Affair - Brian Keith stars as a man who takes custody of his niece Buffy and nephew Jody.
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir - The lady in this show was a BABE!
Shazam, Isis - Two 1970s shows that had little action for a superhero gig.
The White Shadow - Ken Howard played a high school basketball coach.
That Girl - Remember this one with Marlo Thomas?
Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew - Remember Shaun Cassidy's "Let's Rock and Roll?" |
All of the above are well-known for their time. `Does old equal obscure?? If so, Yikes! I'm getting pretty obscure!
Here's one I'm almost certain nobody remembers: The Kids From C.A.P.E.R. It featured a guy that freaked every time he heard someone say banana, a good looking guy who always got the girl (complete with the dreamy sequence and fireworks when they met) and a car that was shaped like either a banana or a hotdog.... banana, I think. This was one quirky show - wAY out there - that lasted all of a season, if memory serves. (It often doesn't these days, tho....) Loved it. |

Can't believe nobody mentioned:
It's Your Move--starring Jason Bateman, and the guy who played marcy's original husband on "Married... With Children". It was actually a pretty good show.
The Marshall Chronicles--Josh Rifkin I think was the lead; it had some good moments. |

I posted these obscure shows because you never seen them in reruns anymore even on the nostalgia TV stations nor can we expect DVD releases in the near future.
Anyone remember Galactica 1980? |

Robotman and Friends....A cartoon shown infrequently on t.v. in the 80's.
Small Wonder...About an android girl named V.I.C.K.I.
Starman...Started out as a movie in the 80's, turned into a television series. The "Starman" used to hold this glowing orb in his hand.
Thunderbirds 2086 One of my favourites...Japanimation from the 80's, kind of like Robotech and the Centurions.
"V"....Aliens that used to peel off their skin to reveal their true green selves.

Beauty and the Beast...television series, starring Linda Hamilton. Weird show...I was young at the time, maybe I just didn't get it.
The Snorks...An underwater version of the smurfs. An 80's cartoon. I loved this show.
Wildfire...Cartoon from the 80's. About a girl who can jump through "portals" on her horse to another world, where her mother were King and Queen. I'm only mentioning this because I think I am the only person in the universe that watched this cartoon!

How about Brisco County Jr, the early 90's sci-fi comedy western? Maybe it's not obscure but it sure deserved more than one season. C'mon, who doesn't love Bruce Campbell?
It got pulled after trying to compete with the X Files for one season. They were both on Fox and the X Files took all the ratings, or so i believe.

| Anyone remember "Out All Night" starring Vivica Fox and Morris Chestnut? The jokes were so stupid and the show had a token white character from Britain. |

Well, it's not too obsecure because of the hit sound track, but I thought American Hero was really cool. I'm not too into Stuperman shows, but that one was kinda soulful in its unreality.
If there was a thread about obsecure cartoon shows (actually I saw one about fav cartoon character and Seseme Street character that was good--don't feel like looking it up though), I'd say Rocky and Bullwinkle or Fractured Fairy Tales. |

That was an awesome show.
I used to watch Small Wonder all the time as well. There was another one with this girl who was half alien and could stop time and her father talked to her through a plastic pyramid. She was hot and I would watch that as well. Both of them came on Saturdays, after the cartoons were over.
A show that was on just recently but sort of sailed under the radar and was cancled after two seaons, was Dead Like Me. Don't know if that qualifies as obscure, but I figured it deserved mentioning. If you can do the bittorrent thing or find the DVD's, you totally should.
There was the X-Files spin-off with the three nerdy guys. Honestly though, it was dropped for a reason. I'm sure it looked good on paper, but in reality, it didn't hold up well. X-files Lite.
Airwolf, which from what I can remember, was basically Nightrider with a bad-a$$ helicopter instead of a bad-a$$ car.
Zoobilee Zoo. That was one hell of a tripped out show. The colors and the charachters and the sets. And the chick in the cat outfit. The first girl I ever loved. The peacock lady just sort of freaked me out though.
The following shows were one's that were on in the early to mid-80's but whose name's I can't remember.
First one was a little asian kid who was some kind of karate master and he had a magic headband or something. He lived with some sort of guardian and they did the crime fighting bit.
The other one was this little midget/dwarf/little person who was like a 3 ft tall Macgyver. I think he was some kind of toy maker but he could do just about anything with a stack of crap, just like Mac. I remember one episode where he rigged a car so he could drive it from the trunk and he made the doors open, the windows roll down, etc. to convince the bad guy it was being driven by a ghost. Ghosts must have been his specialty because there was another episode where he made ghosts appear in a department store.
There's more that are tickling the back of my mind, but that's enough for now.

Otherworld
"The Sterlings are a typical California family who visit the Great Pyramid of Cheops in Egypt. On this day there is a particular alignment of the planets which occurs once every tens of thousands of years. At that time they pass into another dimension which constitutes a whole other universe. The family journeys through this Otherworld trying to find their way back home. Their only hope of doing this is if they can reach the capital of Imar which lies across many forbidden zones and provinces that make up the states of Otherworld." |

I remember Small Wonder. I thought it was pretty good.
At about the same time, there was a show called TheCharmings, which was at the absolute bottom of the ratings. I don't know why. I thought it was pretty good, too. It was about Snow White and Prince Charming and their family, who get transported into the twentieth century by a fairy, but the fairy couldn't remember the magic words to take them back into the Middle Ages.
Now that I think about it, that's a little bity of a stel from Aunt Clara's foul-ups in Bewitched. |
